1) Once you are jailbroken(see step 2 V) you will need to download an app via Cydia called Backgrounder and another call Kirikae which will do that for you.

2)Once you have the phone check 2 things:
(i)[Only applies if BRAND NEW] If it already on 3.1.2 (go settings;general;about) then you are screwed... you can not jailbreak it (yet) without having to connect to a PC with every boot.
(ii) if it is on a lower firmware you must update in iTunes to 3.1.2 then download www.blackra1n.com and run the app with the phone connected to the PC.

Anything else?

mutiflow is also cool for task switching, not quite as useful as kirikae but much better looking!

You don't need to run it in the background. When someone sends you a message on MXit, it'll pop up immediately on the phone (even when the phone's locked and MXit isn't running) and you can then press a button to reply which starts MXit.

(Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it does seem to have push notification on the App Store description. I've only used Beejive IM, but this works in the same kind of way.)

Why do you think he made that up? It's push notification and it's a feature of the iPhone. It lets apps receive messages even while they're not running. Downside: It uses more battery power to turn on push notification than to just put an app in the background with backgrounder, because you need a constant data connection.

I understand the feature... I have an iPhone.... It does not mean that what he described is true for Mxit!
