iPhone 3GS

Thanks. Why is software unlock not recommended?

Software unlock is not recommended as:

- You can't update as soon as firmwares are released. Have to wait for unlock software to be released with every firmware. If you do you run the risk of being locked again until the unlock tool comes out..

-Push does not work at all on software unlocked phones (they are trying to fix it but no solution as of yet)

and more that i can't think of right now.

Interesting. Thanks for the heads-up

And with 3.1 firmware (lower is you're very lucky)

Will have to hold back on the jailbreak until they release a 3.1 OTB (out-the-box) jailbreak.

If its not 3.1 OB then you're in luck!

Got off the phone with Nashua Mobile just to see what stock they have and what contracts its available on. They say the 3GS has been taken off their system now because they have no idea on ETA. Many of their customers have been waiting 2 months and a lot of them have cancelled orders

Guess the search goes on for a black 32Gb at a decent import price

I am getting a 32gig iPhone on a company contract, and a few weeks back I took the proactive step of calling around to find one. I found one at Cellucity in Strand street and popped over to pick it up - I even got the HR lady here to fax through a signed upgrade confirmation letter on a letterhead and a certified copy of my bosses ID (required for an upgrade) - but when I got there they told me I needed to have my bosses original ID with me (not gonna happen obviously), so I let it go and decided to wait for Vodacom to deliver it to the offices instead. I'll probably regret that decision now... Wonder how long I'll have to wait... I cant believe I had one in my hands and walked away... Stupid.

Just thought I'd help my karma...
Picked up my 32GB 3GS yesterday from the Vodashop in ABSA Towers (I believe only ABSA employees can access it since it's inside the building but try your luck) and they had 2 more left in stock. Very helpful staff - I dealt with Corian and Brigette. Good Luck to anyone still looking.

Thanks for that pole_vaulter1, but I'm in Cape Town sooo...:( Thanks anyway.

Question for you iPhone users....(This might be slightly off topic)

I am planning on getting one next month. The problem is that I have a fairly old dsl-modem-wifi-router at home. I set it to bridged mode so that I can use RouteSentry with two PPPoE connections. Now apparently the iPhone doesnt support PPPoE. Also, my modem doesn't take a default username and password if I have it in bridged mode. I guess this means new modem-router for me.

Which Router do you use that does allow you to set a default connection(for non PPPoE devices) AND allows PPPoE?

I hope I stated my problem clear? :)

I spoke to Vodashop in PE. (Vodashop At Vodaworld had stock last week) They still had not been told when they were getting phones.
They also said the Iphone packages expired on 07/10, and new packages were going to come out.

Anyone heard what these new packages look like?

Just got another one of those vodacom notification sms's telling me that my order number xxxxxxx is on back order and an update will follow shortly. That's the second one I've received in a week or so. What does this mean? Are they taunting me? At least there's regular confirmation that I havent been forgotten...

Sorry, that post was supposed to be posted from my Nick, my partner logged into his username and never logged out...

well...got this from Nashua rep (cape town) yesterday:

Good morning

Unfortunaltey we have not received any news of when the phones will be arriving.

We have however received this last correspondence from our procurement office.

I sincerely wish we were in a position to solve this immediately. We are continuously in touch with the overseas supplier and Vodacom who are the supplier to Nashua Mobile.

Vodacom are having major battles with the overseas supplier and a lot of deals have been done already on this handset. The overseas supplier are experiencing manufacturer constraints and are struggling to keep up with the manufacturing of this handset. As soon as they have fulfilled orders in their market, South Africa will receive their stock.

Please know that this issue is being addressed at the highest level at Vodacom.

As you can see from the mail, our recourses are doing everything possible to get the phones to us.

Will let you know as soon as we have received any further feedback.

...been waiting 8 weeks today...

:(

IT'S ARRIVED!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!! And I didnt have to wait a gazillion weeks for it either... It seems I got lucky - only had a three week wait...:D

I phoned Autopage on Friday, was told that they have no idea when stock is arriving, i got a call on Saturday to say it will be arriving on Monday .... 7 week wait, but it seems like the left hand does not know what the right one is doing ....

Damn, I just canceled my MTN contract to move over to Vodacom, just for the iPhone 3GS. Contract expires end of November, so just hope there will be a few phone available by then.
