So, who's about to dish out their life savings on this one?

P.S. Remember to get a phone cover for this one

I agree with @unskinnybob. I have a 3GS and the 4G doesn't really offer anything that I need. The 3GS is still fast enough. For people with older models like normal 3G and down, would seriously recommend upgrading.

End of sept? that seriously sucks... I'm due for an upgrade and have been waiting and waiting already...
Meh. When I got my 3GS last year it was out on the 31st of July, just 5 weeks after it's US launch - don't see why it has to take THAT much longer this time round.

Think I'll get one for cash.. have an expired MTN contract and no intention of being tied up another 2 years just for a phone.

cos they sold 60million worldwide thats why....its crazy the demand of the iphone!

an idea of how much the contracts would cost will be helpful... so far the iphone4 has been cheaper than the 3gs everywhere else in the world, it would be nice to see a price drop in the contracts, +-500 bucks a month would be reasonable and capture my money :)

I won't be getting one of these. The iPhone 4 has been plagued by signal quality issues since launch, even prompting Apple to start selling rubber covers to keep peoples' fingers off the antenna and Jobs advising people to hold it a certain way. It still does not have true multitasking and home screen folders are limited to contain up to 12 apps. What really puts me off is still no support for flash or Java. It is a nice improvement over the last iPhone though, close but no cigar.

They've always had strong demand...

The difference this time is that existing iphone users have now decided to upgrade en masse to the new body design. Many people adopted the wait and see stance, and the new body design has finally tipped the scales. The 3gs wasnt overly attractive to most people who owned a 3g.
