I'm sure this problem affects even the most careful of owners. Accidents do happen it just seems the latest design is the problem.
 
I don' t believe this to be an issue worth fretting about. One must be very careless in what one allows into a pouch/case to scratch the hardened glass to the point where it will crack. Sand (quartz) will do so if not removed from the pouch/case, but who'll allow sand in there and leave it in there? I get the impression this "warning" is aimed at (1) stupid people; (2) those who can afford to be careless with an R8000 device; or (3) those crazy enough to use iPhones in rough environments (military/adventure/etc). Normal intelligent responsible city folk should not be affected when using slide-on cases.
