I bought an iphone 4 today, read up on cutting my sim to micro sim.

Followed the steps properly and cut it to what seems to be fine, but the phone won't see the sim. WTF do I do? Now I can't even go back to my 3G :(

So irritated right now :(

Great selection of phone Grim! You definitely made the right choice :D

Go to the Voda (or your network carrier) store and they'll sort you out with a SIM! Shop around, they should be around R50.

But having said that i've also cut a few before, as long as it fits fine and you didn't touch the chip you should be good..So I wonder why you are getting problems..

Did you try reboot the phone/go to settings, carrier and looking for your network (just to see if its picking up anything at all) .. automatic should always be selected, but just to see if

Lastly, join the local iPhoneZA forums! :)

Thanks dude! I will try that, but I dunno, I cut it fine, so not sure what the issue is :(

Feel like crying

The carrier says MTN :(

The dude told me it was a VC phone. ****er.

Could that be why its not picking up my sim?

You can try Settings, General, Reset Network Settings as well...It will clear any WiFi passwords etc. that you entered though. Worth a shot...

If not, reset all settings, but that will reset any preferences you set in settings as well.

All SA iPhone stock are unlocked to work on all carriers... so no, that can't be it.. At least you are picking up some network though.. Just not Vodacom.. :/

Nope nothing, keeps saying no sim card installed. Sigh!

Is it instant to get a new sim card or do you have to wait? I can't wait. I don't have a ****ing phone now :(

Would a software restore maybe help?

Hmm... Yeah it's instant, they do it on the PC quick but it took a few hours for mine to activate.. They say it can take up to 24 hours though so I would go asap.

But definitely try take your sim out and make sure there's no plastic or anything from where you cut it in the sim slot or on the sim card. Maybe blow out the sim slot as well (careful not to spit in it :p)

I doubt a software restore will help, but you can always try as a last resort after doing the above.

Thanks for the info.

The sim does face upwards when iserting correct? IE the actually chip is facing upwards.

LOL.

Sorry couldn't help but have a giggle.. Haha Which template did you use :o

Because it isn't cut in the right shape, it probably isn't sitting properly. I mean the chip looks fine..

I'll give you a pic of the one I cut for reference in a min.. I find an exacto (craft) knife works best

EDIT: how your sim is inserted in the 2nd last pic - try inserting it the other way around. As in still with the chip up facing the way it is, but rotating it 180 degrees (NOT flip)

noticed yours has quite a bit of space between the chip and the card on each side (top and bottom). Maybe that needs to be cut down a bit? Although if it's fitting in the micro sim holder it should be fine.. Just double check it on the template using a ruler for each line which it tells you to cut

Of course there could be a signal problem where you are standing too..

EDIT: ok wait.. Give me a sec before you do the below

It did seem to show that I needed to cut a bit into the actual chip, I figured that is a no no as surely that messes the chip up?

Nah this isn't a signal issue.

Post edited above. Try that first.

If that doesn't work, then try and cut it as per template, you will come veeeery close to the chip (you can see in my pic), but that sim works perfect so it must be right.
