iPhone 4 to arrive mid August

The iphone4 is sooooooooooooo great. Top people are getting fired for its greatness.

LOL....Engadget also reported that ol' Papermaster got fired for the antennagate disaster.

So....it is true then. :p

Been using the 4 for about three weeks now (brought from UK) on Vodacom. Works very well, death grip a non issue (except in my house... But then very other phone I ever had could not hold a call either). I'd agree with the notion that is actually better than the 3GS in terms of reception- am able to sustain a call from PTA to JHB without any drops, the 3GS ALWAYS dropped calls in three areas along that route.

It may be my imagination but switching from a butchered normal SIM to the Micro SIM seems to have made a difference (positive) on reception and signal stability.

Some people did report reception issues being fixed by taking out the sim and putting it back in suggesting poor electrical contact or loose seating so it's possible.

I went to the Vodashop in the Standard Bank building in JHB just now and the lady said they received a bulletin from Vodacom saying the phone will be released 1st week of September. Apparently the release is being pushed back due to software issues (this after they said last week they completed all software testing).

This leaves me with 2 questions:

1. How much of this is actually true? (Dell fan did you receive this bulletin as well?)
2. What tests are they doing that are failing? People are using imported iPhone 4’s without any issues, so what is Vodacom testing?

I think VC is taking us for a ride and want to make as much money out of the 3Gs as they still can.

As I suspected Vodacom once again can't pull their finger out their backside. They don't seem to care anymore. Vodacom used to be so aggressive with getting new phones, new technology etc now they are like yeah whatever. Vodacom would still not have the iPhone in South Africa if you wasn't for Vodafone putting pressure on them it's no wonder MTN is taking over Africa and the Middle East they are hungry. This is unacceptable Vodacom!!

I remember I was using visual voicemail months before it officially launched and every time I phoned Vodacom the said it wasn't working they were still testing the software... Whatever Vodacom...Heard it all before!!! Launch the iPhone there is no more excuses... You are just lazy!!!!

Apple haven't officially launched or announced it for South Africa so it's not Vodacom's fault. Supply is still very tight. If you really want one, import it from the UK or Europe.

1st week of September hey? Don't hold your breath...

Just checked with my Vodacom buddies - no bulletin today. That woman in JHB is smoking!!!

my sources at MTN have confirmed that the Iphone 4 will be coming to MTN , right now launch dates and pricing is under wraps ( you will not find any info on thier pricelists)

No offence, but I can literally see the **** pouring out of your mouth.

Nice... it's Vodashop staff like this, that will make me move to MTN without skipping a beat. Vodacom better pray that MTN won't be offering the iPhone 4.

My MTN rep says the iPhone4 may only be available in December but right now I don't believe anyone.

I have been using iPhones since the 2G - imported them before you could get them here. I love the damn things.

Am I nuts for not wanting to buy a phone that has such a glaring failure in it's design? Maybe I'm being a stickler but you can hardly brag about how great the phone looks when it does not work correctly.

The iPhone 4 is a failure of design. Fact.
Buying one regardless of that fact just makes all the haters so damn right about Apple fans - this is a case of form over function and buying one anyway is blind devotion and slavery to the shiny.

I can't get my head past that... considering an Android until Apple fixes this.
