iPhone 4 to arrive mid August

I have been using iPhones since the 2G - imported them before you could get them here. I love the damn things.

Am I nuts for not wanting to buy a phone that has such a glaring failure in it's design? Maybe I'm being a stickler but you can hardly brag about how great the phone looks when it does not work correctly.

The iPhone 4 is a failure of design. Fact.
Buying one regardless of that fact just makes all the haters so damn right about Apple fans - this is a case of form over function and buying one anyway is blind devotion and slavery to the shiny.

I can't get my head past that... considering an Android until Apple fixes this.

Well, if we look at sales worldwide - they are FLYING off the shelves!!! Apple still can't make them fast enough!! Even with the design "flaw". I can't wait to get mine :D

Have you used one? Most people say the reception's much better than their other iPhones and the whole "issue" is overblown.

Have not used one. There was a chap who posted on a thread here about using one here on local networks and he said it got more bars than his Nokia so really: I are confuse.

I just love design and if the signal drops to the point of dropping calls by pressing a finger against the side of the phone then that is pisspoor design.

I live in an area with terrible signal so this is a concern to me - if it is just bad enough to give me 1,2 or no bars (flickering connection basically) in my home then what use is it? I have had this situation on CellC in the past: I'd constantly get SMS a day or several hours late, calls would drop, I'd get missed calls more than people would actually get through to me - it was a nightmare of aggravation.

I don't need that.

Well read Anandtech's review of the antenna - in summary he says it's the best phone he's ever seen at holding onto calls. The only phone he's ever seen hold onto a call at -111db, so yeah. Bridging the antenna does cause the reception to drop, for some people, but that can be easily fixed too with a little tape or nail varnish if it is a hassle.

if the problem was really that bad they wouldn't be selling right? man, the waiting is really frustrating.

Exactly!!! The "flaw" hasn't slowed down sales at all!!! Then again, I read somewhere that only 0.55% of ppl were actually complaining about the antenna...

That's the biggest myth of Apple, which I don't understand at all. Their hardware & software is well designed, that's why their products are popular.

Suggest you read post #43, he doesn't seem to be having too many hassles ... I suspect some of this is either (a) media hype or (b) AT&T's crappy network or (c) both of the above.

Folks I know in the UK are also not having any issues with it.

I'm not gonna get one straight away either, but in my case it is because I am not due an upgrade any time soon :(

The sheeple would buy a shiny piece of glass if Jobs put an Apple logo on it....

Because it would be a good piece of glass then:-) Come inside, LancelotSA, come inside. Do not just stand there outside, looking in and wishing. Everyone's welcome! :-)

iPhone users have more sex, that's been proven. Now you know why we do it, the thing's a freakin chick magnet! :P

You're still not getting my point dude...

Wrong. People are actually idiots.

Thanks for your contribution...*pause*...NOT!

...not in this case it isn't. Touching a certain part of a handheld mobile device should not cause it to lose signal to the point of dropping calls.

Gonna wait and see once they are in widespread use here in SA and re-evaluate the situation but for now I am looking into what's coming out Android-wise in the ear future...

Slinky, get off the wrong side of the bed this morning?

We have been informed today we should expect them at the end of October this year.
