Understandably, I guess the uniqueness was not worth the complexity it created for the development community - anyway if a group of devs disagrees then its still possible to introduce some diversity -- as was the case with iOS and the JB mods.Unfortunately not...See http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2012/01/holo-everywhere.html
Most people see this as a bonus, I dont.![]()
At this stage I'd take a look at the Motorola RAZR instead of the SGS2
The battery seems to be doing much better than the SGS2, the RAZR also has to be the sexiest phone atm
Aside from the size, I don't like the side profile -- pushing the thinner dimension is contra to maintaining good optics -- I'd rather they pack additional battery than a thinner and weird looking profile. At this stage I'd take a look at the Motorola RAZR instead of the SGS2

Yes that OS sucked real bad... Remember how synonymous phones with reset buttons were for a crap experience. At least that's not Android's problem. And the wrong OS![]()
OP I'd suggest that you should get an iPhone 4S, please do not even consider an iPhone 4.
Pro
1. Solid designs, good contruction quality
2. Accessories, almost all major retailers have iPhone stock
3. GPU, it is simply unrivaled, there is no phone on the Market that have a better GPU http://www.anandtech.com/show/4971/apple-iphone-4s-review-att-verizon/6 . You can't really pick anything less in this department
4. The ecosystem, the App Store has excellet Apps and Content that you want find anywhere else, though for it to be a plus you have to create a US account(its easy with iTunes) then you'll have access to the most comprehensive Appstore and iTunes University App which you can use it to access thousands of study material.
Cons
1. Screen Size, for me its more than adequate, but if you've used something larger you'd think that your downgrading.
OK you start off by saying he should get the S instead of the normal one but then go off on a anti Android rant.
Did you fail reading or are you so anti Android that you cant even start giving proper points on why he should not consider a 4 without basing the wrong product?
I remember clearly seeing "Now these 2 phones fall within my budget" in his statement so if you say he should go for the S instead would you be so kind as try and redo your listing the proper reasons for your argument?
I beg to differ!
Got myself a HTC Wildfire S as a backup phone & love it!!
It has a 3.2" display, running Gingerbread 2.3.5 with HTC Sense 2.1 - cash price for it hovers around the R3000 mark.
One of my best buys for 2011.
