Sheesh dude, I've seen the phone. I'm also hoping there won't be any queues, of course. :)

I could upgrade in July already, but I decided that I will either get the next generation iPhone or Android. In this case, the 4S is first, so I will get the 4S. No shops have the 4 left, so even if I wanted to get that, I can't. If the Galaxy Nexus was here already, I'd get that.

Notification functionality is the same between 3GS, 4 & 4S; the key difference aside from hardware is Siri; which Android doesn't have I.e. it's not simple vanilla voice recognition, as that was available since the iPhone 3GS. Of course in time Android will also have something similar (but not now).

Dude, you should really stop this. I also prefer the Android platform, but that is my personal choice and I am pretty sure the people that prefer iOS has there reasons. I can definitely see where iOS is better than android with my iDevices. People on myBB are quite knowledgeable in general, so I am pretty sure they made an informed choice.

I was planning to port my wife's pre-paid no to this new contract, but I can only have the phone now if I'm prepared to accept a new line (thus new number). And, yes, this was all verbal by the VC vetting agent.

I had the previous Galaxy S, it was awesome, but how is SG2 it better than iPhone4S? Bigger screen? Processor?

I really don't get it, the only thing that SG2 has over iPhone is the screen thats it.

SG2 CPU clocked at 1.2 Ghz and iPhone 4S at 800 Mhz, I played with both, they are really fast.(SG2 has a bit of a lag)

GPU: iPhone 4S thrashes SG2 when it comes to GPU power, it is twice as powerful

History always repeats itself, walk into a store and ask for accessories of the original Galaxy S and iPhone4, you will see the difference, the outcome will be the same for both SG2 & 4S next year around this time.

Openness? I really don't get that part, or your referring to side-loading of apps? I have a galaxy tab my one stop shop for apps is the Google Market, I don't really think that sideloading apps is a bigger concern for the majority of the people

Cameras? Which one is better is debateable, they both have good cameras, the front camera I havent found a use for it in most instances(but what applies to me, may not apply to you)

Apps? This is what sets both devices apart, If your into games, then iOS if for you(US app store), Infinity Blade II is awesome, at 930 MB, I doubt if you'll find a 500MB+ app on Android, I might be wrong because lately all my Android devices I just use them for browsing and setting alarms.

iTunes?(US Store account) I know people hate it, but once you get to use it, you'll find that its great, with Itunes University, you have access to thousands of videos, podcasts and books from hundreds of universities and colleges. If you are a student or a parent, iTunes is a good source of free learning material.

Support? In South Africa there isn't much in terms of hardware support for both devices. Software updates? Apple has been consistent in making regular updates across all devices despite of carrier or region.

Security? They both have their pro's and con's. Again if you are a parent, Apple has excellent parental controls. About Carrier IQ, I don't know if its installed on local devices but on iPhone it is disabled by default. Can you do a remote find of your phone?

Value for money? When it comes time to let go of your phone, how much will you be able to sell it for? Versus the original purchase price?

Exluding pay-in. On the Talk 120 it's R2400 for 32GB or R3600 for 64GB (or R99 per month or R149 per month)

yeah . I was told I could not port my old number (of 15 years) to the new contract. I told them to get back to me when they could or maybe I should wait till the new year?
 
Nah, I think I'll wait a bit before upgrading. I want a Talk 120 contract but without the data bundle. I'm on Wifi almost everywhere I go.
 
Got the call. Vodacon is quite sharp. Need to check you for credit worthiness before even telling you what the contracts are all about. The Talk240 + 500MB + 100 SMS (why the sms?) for R550 for the 32GB WHITE iPhone 4s. Why is the black one more expensive?

In anyway. I might need to get a white one and my wife the black one. Imagine having two iphones at home looking the same!

Also got the call, about 5 minutes ago. Was also vetted online.

Talk120 + 500MB + 100 SMS goes for R499 for the 16GB. Apparently there are only 1000 4S phones in the country, as per the sales agent. Too bad I have loyalty to my existing number, as they are only looking for new deals and not upgrades.

Any company with any sense of commitment to customer service would give preference to existing clients. This just goes to show how warped the telecoms industry in SA has become.
