Hi people

I'm looking at upgrading to one of these 2 options. If there is a thread that already compares with people's opinions (who own the above phones) please point me to it :)

So far price wise, on upgrade (@MTN) - R279 for the galaxy pm on 200 Top up (no data). Iphone 4s 32GB - R519 on 200 Top up with 250MB of data PM.

Opinions of galaxy and iphone 4s users would be appreciated.
thanks

The best phones around at the moment are the iPhone 4S, Lumia 800 and HTC One S in my opinion.

well see as nowhere i have found sell the One S, the One X is the better option

Meh, the One X is a big bulky phone. One S the nicer of the two

I just checked the specs of both. Why would you say the One S is better?

As for the OP. Both phones are great. I opted for the S2 because memory is expandable, Android and of course the price.

The new Galaxy S3 will be available from end May in Europe and end of June for SA. Rather wait a month.

Specs...Sies
The One S is better in my opinion as it has the same build quality and design (Both software and hardware) as the One X, but without the bulky size

A white Samsung Galaxy S2.

thanks. I'm not sure how reliable the release date for S3 in SA will be. And when phones are just released, normally the pricing is not that good...

Iphone Iphone Iphone. nuff said!
Brain-washed. nuff said! :D Go S2 for sure, unless you like Apple's closed ecosystem (my bro got rid of his iPhone 4 because this).

There's a 3 page thread on this exact topic here.

Edit: Link fixed

instead of the normal Pick mine pick mine pick mine....

Both are great and capable phones.

I'll ask, what do you want and what phone do you have right now?

Do you prefer ease of use and letting everything seem like it just work, bar that you conform to the manner in which they work or are you a person that like to dabble and do things your way regardless of what the stream is doing.

I normally found that Apple in its basic breakdown is form over function and Android is function over form.

Aaah stuff it, heres my Pick mine section:
Personally used both iPhone 4 and HTC Desire HD, ordered my Xperia S on Saturday as I prefer its looks/abilities more than the SGS2 (Maybe you should look at that as another option, dont know if its on MTN and at what price)

@sii your link doesn't seem to work.

@Elimentals. now thats what I call a spanner in the works. I've always loved sony ericsson - and this sony xperia S looks the business. Didn't find it on the MTN list of upgrades/options I got :(

In terms of usage - I'd probably use it much the same way i use my current not-so-smart phone (crapberry). gmail, twitter, facebook, googlemaps, whatsapp. so probably normal usage - maybe some games too. Definitely watching series as well.

I think there's a fair chance I'll start developing on whatever i get, be it IOS or android...

Sorry, yeah I was wondering about that, it is a new phone and only became available in SA last week, so might take about a week or two to be on all the lists, price wise its seems to be about the same or just above the SGS2 in the range.

Personally I am looking at game dev, well more to the point PS Game dev with http://www.playstation.com/pss/developer/index_e.html so its available on the Phone, PSP vita and PS consoles. We will see how that pans out. Also note if you gonna do iOS development, it pays to go the full monty as X Code will need a mac or at least access to one.
Yes the Xperia S has access to official PS titles.

Anyway good luck and make sure you read everything about your future device, its a decision that will stick with you for the next 2 years at least.

With that usage, the iPhone 4S or Lumia 800 would be best. And I would say it tilts in the 4S's favour

Personally I would get the 4s but then I'm an Apple fanboi so you not going to get an objective opinion out of me.

Having said that the Xperia S looks a very under rated device and seeing as you have a penchant for Sony you should give it some serious consideration!!! It's speced right up there and is a stunning looking device.

As good as the S2 is consider resale value, consider that it is already over a year old, consider that your next upgrade is 2 years down the road. The S3 will launch early June, well worth the wait IMHO...

Talking about looks on Xperia, but doesn't this new Xperia SX look a lot like a iPhone?

I mean just give that thing a silver edge and your sorted, and the fact that its about the same size doesn't help either.

Just when you thought some OEM's gonna carve their own style they go out and do things like this. Can they not get it over their heads that not every one like the crappy iPhone look :)

@sand_man i'm exactly the opposite when it comes to screen size. so many colleagues at work have iphones and i think the screen is too small. The way i'm feeling right now, its between the S2 and Xperia S right now. Maybe I should wait a bit for the S3, but then pricing will become a huge factor.

I don't think MTN have the Xperia S yet. I think vodacom does, and 8ta.
