My iPhone 5 switches off with about 50%/40% charge still left. When I plug in the charger it then comes back on and starts charging from 50%.
I've tried all the usual stuff, recalibrating the battery, restoring to factory settings etc.

I've read quite a few posts with the same problem and no response from Apple.
My handset is from Telkom mobile and is about 16 days out of warranty.

Has anyone else in SA experiEnced this?

What I have experience with my Iphone 3S was the same . What I thought is that I did not charge it properly .So I left it on the charger .Come sleeping time It was fully charge . So I took it off the charger and took it to my bedroom .

The next morning when I left for work I took the cellphone and notice that the screen was cracked from the inside . To cut a long story short the phone was swollen up when I remove the protecting rubber cover from the phone .It just broke in two pieces .To me it looks that the battery pop .So be aware

I'm having the same problem, phone just turns off around the 30% battery mark...wont turn on for a while. Thinking about giving iFix a shot to replace my battery.

How old is your iDevice? I've been using my iPhone 4S since December 2011. So it's about two & a half years old. And I think my device's battery has deteriorated significantly. I've tried to take care of the battery by discharging it to 5-10% every month, and charging it when it gets to 40% daily. Although this is a difficult thing to do, trying to find power all the time. It's not hard to allow the phone to die completely. (which isn't good for Lithium batteries.)

I tend to charge the phone overnight (which I heard isn't good) and today at 11am it's at 59% already, I'm probably going to have to replace my battery soon too. I mean my iPhone 3GS holds a charge longer it seems, and that thing is 4 & half years old.

EDIT: An hour later (12pm) it's at 30%, with some average use.
