iPhone 5 cash price

Hi all,

Would like to know if anyone knows the answer to this:

The RRP for the iPhone 5 16gb is R8400. I went over to my local vodashops and most of them are selling the phone for R9500. I mean what the hell? Can they do that? I would really like to do a cash buy instead of going on contracts, but why are they more expensive than the rrp?
 
Ouch. Not any better - I saw Incredible Connection were saying here "new low price of R8999.95" or R532 * 24 months .... gulp.

Also looking to buy one cash. Some stores are ridiculous. I'm just going to wait a bit, prices should drop.
 
The iStores sell the iPhone 5 16gb for R8299.
 
Will go and get one at the iStore, although there is no iStore in Bloem, I will rather drive to Joburg and buy it there instead of giving Vodacom a cent more than R8299!!
 
Istores only have stock of 32 and 64gig models.

Just phone first. Don't want you to waste your time, stocks are very limited.
 
guys i guess you should wait till the 8ta stores have stock, they selling 32GB for 8800, i was impatient so got mine from istore for 9800 with extended icare warranty

Now that is the stupidest thing I have heard in a long time! Driving the approximately 840km from Bloemfontein to Johannesburg and back, plus the R78.00 (R39.00 X 2) for the Verkeerdevlei tollgate, the R90.00 (R45.00 X 2) for the Vaal tollgate and the R28.00 (R14.00 X 2) for the Grassmere tollgate (R196.00 total toll fees) will most certainly be more than if you just go out and buy it outright in Bloemfontein. According to the AA website, the running costs for a 1600cc car is ±R1.35 per km. Multiply the distance of 840km with the running costs you get to R1134.00, and when you then add the toll fees you get to a total of R1330.00. If you then add the cost of the iPhone to the R1330.00 you get to a total of R9629.00, which means you will be actually be paying more for your iPhone! Also, if you drive all the way to Johannesburg you will get hungry and thirsty and buy something to eat and drink which all adds up to your costs. Unless you incorporate this into a planned trip to Johannesburg, logic dictates that you should bite the bullet and just go and buy it in Bloemfontein. Or be patient and order it online from a reputable store.
 
I wont drive just for the phone geezer, will be visiting my sister in the 2nd week of January.....you didn't really think I would be that stupid?!

Apple.com have it for $649 and postbox-courier will ship it to you for around $30 dollars. That works out to R5763. Not sure about VAT, import duties etc though.

Would the phone work here in SA with MTN etc?
I see Amazon and eBay have sellers that are flogging iPhones, in the market for an iPhone 4S for cheap.
