Cell C, any ideas when the carrier update will come out that enables LTE on Cell C?

Will you also enable this for both iPhone and iPad?

Hi whatwhat

Unfortunately for now we cant provide an exact date, but it is still in the testing phase.

Will keep you posted.

thanks.

At least it is planned... I thought Cell C forgot about the iPhone 5.

i aslo noticed a funny thing the other day. I helped a friend setup his ipadmini and it had the option to enable LTE...

Whats that about?

Some more questions please, if you are able/allowed to answer them :)

Will your LTE use a seperate APN for access? I see that I use iphone.cellc.co.za at the moment, but other providers have a seperate APN. Will that be the same with you guys, and what is the APN name?

Also, will people who have iPhones with you guys get their data upgraded to LTE, is that automatic or will that happen already? I see that LTE data sometimes get bundles as seperate from 3G data.

The jist of it is that with a jailbroken iPhone you can load a custom carrier file, and I can override my phone to enable LTE for Cell C until it becomes "official".

LTE launch offer SIMs use the normal 'internet' APN.

I have my own LTE capable device, can I access the Cell C LTE network?

Not at this time.
We currently only offer DATA on our LTE network and are only offering LTE access via our launch offer

Please can we get some response from Cell C. That said, I'd rather get a well tested service than a half-baked one!

Vodacom has a working 3G network and their LTE sucks. Cell C has a terrible 3G network with spotty data, so adding LTE to the mix is just going to ***** it up even more.

How so? They're in completely different frequency bands.

I could hardly get 3G. So glad I'm cell c free. the most frustrating service.

You mean the backhaul links for a particular tower, or nationally?

Everywhere, you can look in the Vodacom section as well. The phones with LTE (i5, S3 etc) end up getting a lot of no signal, which need an airplane mode toggle to sort out. The customer care is advising people to turn off LTE to stop this from happening.

At least with Vodacom the 3G always works. Cell C, the biggest mistake I ever made. Sitting next to my gf (both with i5's on Cell C) she gets working 3G and mine just times out. When we are in a different location it's reversed. It's a lucky draw whether your connection works or not, and I'd rather pay more to know that people can always get hold of me when needed.

The fact that Cell C ignores all the comments on this BB, and the MyBroadband just rans a silly article saying everything is working and there wasn't a problem just means it's something that they covering up in a big way.

And as usual, there is nothing the SA consumer can do.

I think we're having two different discussions here.

I just didnt' quote all the messages.

Vodacom and Cell C are both having issues, whether it's tower or backhaul none of them are coming forward. Just that Vodacom is a better experience.

I've had problems with Vodacom's LTE but my experience with Cell-C's LTE has been very good, even in areas where their 3G/HSPA is congested (using a modem, not a phone).

Guys, its the way they implement lte. Vodacom does not do auto switchover from lte to 3g when moving between these towers.

This is a function of user equipment to switchover. Maybe you mean forced switchover by the tower (when connection deteriorates below certain level).
