My 5s has been used without a protector for 2 years, have not noticed any scratches unless I pay very close attention, and minor scratches can be rubbed out with a gentle compound anyway.

6s is a magnet for hairline scratches (unlike some other flagships). I got some from what I can only assume was sand in my pocket.

I've had a 6s since launch day and have no scratches on it but then I wear clean washed clothes without sand in the pockets ;).

Mine were only visible under a bright light if one tilts the screen. Some other members here reported the same.

Washing will not remove sand from the pockets. But various other things can scratch the screen quite easily.

Not in my experience, even my 2 year old 5s has only one slight scratch on the screen, and then was from a drop. No hairline scratches there either.

I don't carry sand or stones in my pockets, I have my clothes washed after wearing them and I don't carry anything else in the pocket with the phone. A little common sense goes a long way.

Must be all these rocks in our pockets

Try turning your pockets out before you (or your maid) puts them into the washing machine (probably consider washing your pants after each time you wear them in future). Also, try not to roll out around on the beach while wearing the pants you want to carry your phone in.

Same advice holds true whether it's an iPhone or Galaxy...

just trying to give you some idea of how to avoid pockets full of sand and dirty clothes, personal hygiene is a big thing these days, it includes clean clothes...

Nearly 33% of all active iPhones are models with 4" displays

http://www.gsmarena.com/nearly_33_of_all_active_iphones_are_models_with_4_displays-news-16471.php

"There are numerous reports Apple will be unveiling a new iPhone model this March, together with the new iPad lineup and MacBook refresh. There are quite a few unbelievers there, but this recent report may help many understand why the possibility is more than real.

According to Mixpanel’s report on the iPhone models about 19% of all iPhone owners are still holding on to their beloved iPhone 5s. The iPhone 5 accounts for about 8% of the users while the iPhone 5c and iPhone 4s are 5.4% and 4.2% of all active iPhones.

These numbers confirm that one-third of the active iPhones users are loving their 4” display and aren’t exchanging it for a bigger one. If you add the iPhone 4s and older 3.5" models, we get a number close to 40% of users not using larger model iPhone.

Sure, there are lots of reasons for people not upgrading their iPhones, but one of the most common explanations is because of the new bigger screen size. Many people are seeking an upgrade, Apple just isn’t presenting them the device they want.

These numbers can be easily translated into a demand for a smaller iPhone and then those rumors about an upcoming smaller iPhone 5se begin to make sense. We are sure Apple also acknowledges these shares and what’s a better way to make those people upgrade if not an iPhone 5s spiritual successor - like an enhanced edition such as the iPhone 5se is rumored to be?"
