What I know about JBing can be written on a postage stamp...

Curious though: once JBen, does it need to be maintained at all? Or is it set and forget? And are you limited in what apps you can run, or can AppStore apps still run as per normal? What about system stuff like iCloud and Photos etc?

So finding you a kief wallpaper probably isn't enough to keep you happy.

Love my wallpapers so more are always welcome.

I'm sure they'll be compatible with a new Sony Z7 or whatever it will by the time my upgrade cycle rolls by.

No maintenance.

Cydia is the equivalent of the App Store for jail breakers. Everything on the phone runs as normal only with Cydia there is no vetting of apps and content is not limited to apps but mods, system altering software and tweaks. That's the big difference.

So your apps come via Cydia?

So no stock apps? And iCloud/handoff etc? Do they still work?

The last time I went droid it lasted all of 6 months so don't fret.

Actually find the level of customization and general 'freedom' on android a bit over whelming. Don't have hours and hours and hours to spend fiddling anymore.

In fact that's probably what I'm enjoying most about this 6s currently. No time consumed fiddling.

All works perfectly yes. You basically have the freedom to acquire content from 2 different sources. App Store and Cydia. There only a handful of the same apps that are available on both stores. Protube for example.

EDIT: You don't really get apps off Cydia. You can't get Facebook or Twitter or Instagram or Angry Birds off Cydia. You would install those via the App Store but you could install an Angry Bird cheats via Cydia. And you could install Twitter ++ via Cydia, a tweak that enhances how you interact with the stock Twitter app.

Cosmetically the only way to tell a jail broken iPhone from a stock standard one is through the presence of the Cydia icon/app. The phone looks and behaves in the same way as a stock phone does. That obviously changes once one starts installing stuff acquired via Cydia.

Can be said for Apple products in general.

Correct. Pretty much applicable to every OS other than Android. Not much to customize on a windows phone or Symbian or crapberry.

With Apple there's the added benefit of not having to do much debugging or troubleshooting either. Things pretty much work as specified in the operators manual.

Not entirely true, there are a number of apps that won't run on a jailbroken phone.

Yes - but also 3rd party. So some (many?) of them might not run on a JB phone/iPad?

I've personally not encountered it but there are a few documented examples of apps detecting jailbreak code which results in a non functioning app.

The ABSA app won't run and if you load up a previous version that does not have JB detection it forces an upgrade, so you're snookered.

Interesting. My Nedbank and Standardbank apps are still good. Xcon is a jailbreak tweak that bypasses jailbreak detection in App Store applications. Never used it, have had no need so have no idea how effective it is.

On a side note if like me you feel the animations baked into iOS just get in the way, here's an easy way to fix that.
