I ordered on istore at about 9am. Seems like everything was sold out at about 10.

Fair enough.

Still there are a lot of factors that play into it and most of that goes to the support structures for a very small market.

Could it be cheaper? Sure.

Would it be worth it? Probably not.

So it’s a case of getting an iPhone for a price, or getting now iPhone at all.

After all the pricing compares to its competitors.
 
So I called Vodacom, The response I got was along these lines, the phone is not even released yet, so we don't even know when the product will be out, or the stock levels. If you have your reference number that means that we will contact you once we have more details. Most likely only from next week.

Heard though the grapevine that a local store is only expecting 20 units...

So this first wave of iPhone releases is more for Apple to say we are releasing to these countries, look at our roll out, rather then actually supplying even 1/8 of the demand. #justapplethings

With telkom free me unlimited you get the 256gb iPhone X for R1999 (R1000 for the phone it seems). Is that free me unlimited a good way to go? Lots of calls made and data used seems will only be for browsing and downloads as music and video streaming is zero data.

I know YouTube is stuck at 360p tho but other than that it seems a good deal?

Edit: Actually the 64gb model costs less than buying the phone cash being r800pm

Anyone with experience in Telkom mobile. At present in terms of network quality I can't complain about Vodacom
Would not want to go backwards

Very good in Joburg.

In the countryside, you better hope that the MTN roaming works and lasts.

I use TM in a LTE dongle.

Signal wise it’s better to roam on MTN and you only get 3G then.
Telkom signal a little spotty in JHB cbd, Rosebank and a couple other places

My plan was to buy the phone cash (x2 as my SO also wants one) but that contract seems pretty good.

Even though you end up paying R48000 (per contract) over 2 years we currently go through between R3-R4k airtime at the moment (each) - granted that’s with kids and YouTube (but with the free me they zero rate YouTube which is great) and business calls - no land line in our area at all only fiber.

64GB is too small unfortunately. Music library alone is that even with Apple Music subs. Maybe it will be better now we can stream without using data?

All the other free me contracts only offer free telkom calls and charge 69c per minute to other operators.

I know Vodacom and MTN use to offer unlimited packages but they will still charge for streaming and not sure how much data they offer per month before it gets limited.

Can maybe buy the phones cash and take sim only contracts for R999 a month but if my maths is correct the total costs work out basically the same.

Also looking into it. On my 7 plus I used 40gb. With lots of crap on it. But I'm not much of a video taker. So the 64gb for me is enough. Only thing now is the quality of the Telkom mobile network. Which according to posts above is patchy

Edit: one phone I've already bought. Just need one for the wife

Apple is still struggling to fulfill orders in the original launch countries, I think even mid December is going to be missed for the majority of those who have pre-ordered.

No they are not. Go look at istocknow.com and see how many are available everywhere.

Even in the US you can go pick up a phone at the store quite easily if you reserve it on their websites at 6am. This week shipping estimates for the US went down to 2-3 weeks for delivery.

Maybe after you lol, go and read McRumors, even in the US there are a lot of people still waiting for preorders. UK 6am orders are still like hens teeth, I think there’s been 1 day in the last 2 weeks with reasonable stock levels.
