iPhone iOS 4.1 update battery drain on iPhone 4

I got my iPhone 4 last week and I was very happy with the battery life until I decided to update to iOS 4.1. After the update the battery percentage dropped from 99% to 85% within an hour. I started researching and found out I am not the only one with this problem. They give you some possible fixes but I thought I'll make a recovery straight away as the phone is almost new and I wouldn't loose many sms's and stuff. Unfortunately not even the clean install of the 4.1 and setup as a new phone has changed anything. It drops by about 10% an hour. Anyone else having this issue? I got the phone 4 days ago and I feel like going back to Cellucity to exchange it because there is no way I can downgrade to 4.0.1 or 4.0.2 and who knows how long it takes for apple to address this issue.

Do you think Cellucity would exchange the phone?
 
do a clean install without any additional apps loaded , then test battery for few hours
 
I am also trying to figure out how long the battery lasts. after the first charge it was dismal. this is now the 3rd charge and I took it off power at 6am, am on Wifi, have made one call and sit at 79%. Let's see how long the phone lasts, but I do find that I will barely make it through the day.
 
Ya I'd say do a factory reset via iTunes. Dont install any apps for now.

I'm running 4.1 on an iPhone 4 and the battery is fine.

make sure 3G is switched off... it drains you battery quickly
 
I must say I'm impressed with my battery on my iPhone 4 as compared to 3GS, got it at launch updated it to iOS 4.1 last charged it on Thursday lasted until Sat. afternoon while on holiday in Durban

I had an iPhone 3G before this - my iPhone 4's battery is WAAAAY better than the 3G :D
 
So it seems that the clean install has fixed this problem and that the cause is one of the apps I had installed. It is now on 100% since my last post, so for almost 1 hour. I will make a list of the apps I had installed and post it.

Perhaps I should install 5 apps at a time now

Schweet!! I actually do a full restore every time a new firmware is available - I never restore from a backup ;)

Think I had the same issue ... used it for a few days, all fine. Upgraded to 4.1 and still made a few calls ... put it in my pocket and when I took it out about two hours later the phone was completely dead ... would not even switch on when I connected it to a charger. Got home that evening and stuck it on a USB charger (ok, not the apple one), switched on, but battery was completely drowned. ... went out, so only checked it next morning. Battery was still drained, and it showed a message syaing temperature is too high ... "iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it". I then stuck it on my iPad's charger and everything seems to be fine again now.

Another guy at work bought two and one was dead out of the box. Will switch on when on charger, even shows battery is fully charged, but as soon as you remove the charger phone just dies. He is still waiting for replacement, as Vodaworld didn't bother to keep any stock back for warranty replacements.

On another note ... owners of previous iPhones seem to be happy with reception, but this things reception where coverage is not great is nowhere near as good as my iPad's or HTC's (not even doing the death grip on it).

All in all really not good first impressions. Still love my iPad, though.

Got the same issue - HTC Dream has better reception and the phone "jojo's" between 3G and Edge.
 
It's getting a bit weird now. After recovery the battery was stable at 100% for quite a while. After an hour I set up gmail as exchange account and connected to my wifi router. within 15 minutes or so it dropped to 94%. Switched off push, deleted my email account, reset network setting as per instructions here: http://www.iphonefaq.org/archives/971067

Still dropping... damnit, it's getting annoying now. Will do another recovery and see, if it is stable I will connect to my router, then set up email
 
After the last recovery I played around and battery seems to be good, after a while I connected to the wifi router and suddenly battery drops from 96%to 92% in 15 or so minutes. Altough wifi is off now it continues to drop. It obviously has something to do with the wifi connection. that would also explain why the phone gets warm below the rear facing camera. can anyone confirm the wifi antenna location in an iPhone 4?
 
dropped by 3% within 13 minutes with wifi off. will do another recovery now, NOT connect to wifi and check again
 
new recovery, no dropping, the moment I connect to wifi it starts dropping. So it is confirmed, the wifi connection is the battery drain cause and switching off wifi didn't help. only another recovery stopped it.

APPLE PLEASE DO SOMETHING!!!... or should I go and have it exchanged?
