iPhone iOS 4.1 update battery drain on iPhone 4

new recovery, no dropping, the moment I connect to wifi it starts dropping. So it is confirmed, the wifi connection is the battery drain cause and switching off wifi didn't help. only another recovery stopped it.

APPLE PLEASE DO SOMETHING!!!... or should I go and have it exchanged?

Been following this with some interest - getting my iPhone 4 tomorrow and hoping this won't happen to me... Sorry to hear about your problem - if I were you, I would try to have it exchanged.

When I had Wifi on my 3Gs the battery would drop by 15-20% max overnight (8-9 hours).

Lol, that's really one feature they shouldn't try to copy from Android phones :D

It should come with 4.0.2 preinstalled. just don't update. will go to cellucity tomorrow and try to get a new one.

I actually missed this post somehow. I have also experienced HECTIC battery drain recently. I cannot explain it. Most websites recommend switching off push, 3g, Wifi etc. But I had all these running on 4.0.2 as well and battery life was awesome. Dont have time now to play with continuous fresh installs etc. Just hope apple sorts it out asap. It appears (and I could be wrong, still need to verify this) that the usage time since last charge, increases although iPhone is in standby mode. Something is draining an insane amount of power resulting in much worse battery life than I had on my 2G

I have tried everything. Once email and wifi is setup it starts dropping and I just couldn't make it stop again no matter what. It is slightly better today but still bad. Took it off the charger at 10 and 4 hours later with minimal use it is on 80%. So it drops 5% per hour in standby.

I get roughly the same results. Let us know if you do find something. I will do the same!

Playing 3D space combat games really warms my iPhone up and drains the battery in like 5 Hours

I am convinced it has something to do with wifi or email. going to cellucity later, hope they have replacement for me.

Got my iPhone 4 and it is awesome :D

But now I'm afraid to upgrade to 4.1.... Currently running 4.0.2

Have you tried closing all the apps manually? Double tap the home button then hold down on one of the icons - you can then close them by clicking on the little red symbols...
Skype was sucking my battery (even when logged out) so I just close it manually each time and now my battery lasts really long :)

Rather wait for the next update to come

Everything closed. I haven't even installed any apps.

From 10am until now it went down to 51% with very light use. It's better then yesterday but still... They didn't have stock at Cellucity so they couldn't exchange it. Have to call their headquarter tomorrow.

They say I have to bring iPhone back to Cellucity and that it will take 7-10 days to be replaced. Firstly, that's not my understanding of a 7 day out of box failure replacement, that's normal manufacturers warranty. However, I do not really want to give it back and wait for so long, I just want to downgrade to 4.0.2 ;-((((

delete ur mail accounts and reset ur network settings

i tried this last night as i was having the same problem as u:

delete all ur mail accounts on your phone
reset your network settings in General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
reboot your phone
add your mail accounts again

i let my battery run low and recharged it and so far today the battery has been running pretty well

Troycle, I have followed all your instructions, and it seems to have made an improvement already.I am on 1 hour 15 min standby, 15 min usage, and I am still on 100%. Usually it would be 95-97% by now.

yeah, i've been pushing my phone really hard the past day, been on wifi and my data bundle(disabled 3G though) and downloading and playing games and music and the battery is definitely coping way better. glad it's worked for me, i really didn't want to have to go through the process of figuring out which app/s could be causing the drain.

This morning it looked better, but now it appears to be low again. I will most prob have to go through my apps but geez, who has time for that... Maybe i must at least try to remove all apps that has no OS4 support. That should be a good start. :)

It seems my problem has fixed itself. I didn't change anything but just let it drain 2 or 3 times already and then charge it fully overnight. I am SO relieved the problem is gone.
