iPhone push and WhatsApp

It seems that Dames is correct with his explanation. Even though only one tick displays on my phone, the message has in fact been delivered to the recipient's iPhone, and a new message notification is being displayed. When the recipient opens WhatsApp, it says 'Connecting...' in the notification area, and the 'delivered' tick displayes on my phone. A la BBM.

Told you guys! :p

But seriously though, I think it's so much better that way. I think the reason that the messages are still delivering to your friend's iPhone, even it's sitting on the table next to you, is because he probably didn't specifically close whatsapp or go to the home screen before locking the phone. In that case it seems that they do usually deliver with a double tick.

That is the truth :D

Yeah iOS notification system works independently from the actual Application.

You'll notice specifically with Whatsapp that even if you opened and read a Notification when you open the App it will take a few moments to "refresh" the latest messages even though you have read them already.

Bit irritating. Twitter does the same.

No it's actually the one reason why I like the iPhone and specifically push notifications so much. It is delivering to their phones immediately, assuming they have a data connection active, but the way the app works on iOS means that you have to physically open the application for it to register a message receipt and thus give the sender a second tick.

For example, let's assume you send me a message. You'll get a tick and as soon as the message comes through to me I'll get a push notification with the message on my screen. At this point though, you will still only have 1 tick. It's only when I actually click on the notification or open whatsapp itself that you will get the second tick. So technically I can receive and read a message via push notifications without you even knowing.

Hope that makes sense?

Hahaha! What a load of bullsh*t Dame!
Probably what one would expect from a fanboy.

Digging up 2 years old thread? :)

Not just digging it up, but digging it and then posting a BS reply to the 2 year old post with the correct info.

His village must be missing him...

Hehe. Typical knee jerk reaction, can't say I'm surprised, his entire village seems to have this problem.

Hmm, I have been noticing this behavior, but I don't get the notification immediately. I thought my push notifications wasn't set up correctly but I followed the instructions on whatsapps site and apple's. I still physically have to open whatsapp to check, otherwise the notification for the messages will only happen later.

On one of the discussions on the Apple forums it suggested I should just switch it off hard with the home key and power combo. Seems like all is sorted on my side now. But it does look like there is some kind of problem as the forum had more than 60 posts

I usually appreciate advice from grandmasters and super grandmasters, but in this case I have to say, rather get two iPhones and check the facts for yourselves before making any reference to me and my village. One is never too old to learn something new.
