Hey everyone.

So today I take my iPhone 4S into CellC for a repair and the repair bookings agent asks me to fill in all my details including my Apple ID and Apple ID Password. (?!?!)

I looked at him...asked if he was serious and he looked back at me as if I was crazy.
I told him in a nice way to get f#%ked and wrote a small note on the bookings form explaining why I'm not willing to supply my Apple ID details. He couldn't understand why I was giving him such a hard time and commented that "everyone provides these details and that is required for the repair process".

Keep in mind what data you store on your phone, on itunes or the android market place, gmail, hotmail, twitter, facebook, instagram etc. and then think about giving somebody access to that plus your library of music, media and other stuff you've downloaded on your phone's platform and that some poor ignorant people actually give this info out to complete strangers...it amazes me.

They can ask until they're blue in the face, they will not get those details...

I would have asked him to give me his atm card with pin in return.

Contact CellC Headquarters and lay a complaint, something is very wrong.
Which branch was it?
The stores are franchises...
iStore ask you to input your password/pin yourself.
When I have done anything there, I change my password to 1234 just before I handing my macbook/ phone over, and immediately change back on receiving it back....NO iTunes password ever given out.
I use 1Password so as not to store things in keychain/ browser.

I'll be escalating the matter to CellC and Apple because CellC should under no circumstances be asking customers for this info, for any reason at all. I'm still in shock that he even had the audacity to ask me.

That is very very wrong! It can't be standard practice!

They wipe the handset clean and restore factory settings via the update cable, no Id or passwords needed.
The only reason they would need it is for possible fraudulent activities.

You SHOULD have asked him a simple question.... WHY?
I'd love to hear the response on why he would need that kind of info.

Related: I've heard some companies ask for a facebook username & password when you apply

With any Password or PIN, only you should know it. Always.

Was it an official repair form that you completed that asked for the details? Or was it just a homemade type form?

I'm wondering if this thread shouldn't be moved to the cellc section to make it easier for their rep to respond?

That's a really strange request. I doubt that this is company policy

The form was was a CellC repair book-in form, but in the area that I was asked to fill those details in, it just stated "Technical Comments" it's a big empty box at the base of the form. I was instructed to fill in any other technical data like glitches, weird occurrences experienced on the device etc. for troubleshooting purposes for their repair team I suppose. Also, in this box I was instructed to fill in my personal details, Full Name, Address, Signature, and of course my Apple ID credentials.

Obviously I didn't and informed the guy I'll be escalating the matter.

I'm not ready to reveal the name of the place I went to right now, because I don't want to incur "Deformation of character" or "Slander in legal ramifications" but I'll say it was an official CellC outlet.
