iPhone users beg Apple not to use camera-jamming tech

If a performer doesn't want you to take pictures of his concert, then you shouldn't be allowed to.
Anything that empowers artists to enforce how they want their output to be consumed gets my approval

Are they going to configure it so that it only stops recording if you point the camera at the performer / performance?

The terms of entering the arena is usually no recoding devices, not no recoding devices pointed at the performer.

Still, would be great if they could do that.

Personally I think its a pretty good idea , it could be useful at concerts, theater performances, nude beaches, cinema etc.... generally places where pictures shouldn't be taken.

But I would much rather want something that permanently damages a phone when ever some one texts in the cinema , or while driving, especially in the cinema.

I wouldn't attend a concert where camera's don't work. The convenience of having a camera on a mobile phone means that you can record if something goes wrong and it can be used as evidence later e.g. security staff abuse, drunk attendees, etc. There's just too much room for abuse.

Can this feature be abused by the authorities?

Two way blade

Goverments and Censorship

Every once in a while I get reminded why I moved my while family away from Apple products years ago.

Great idea. Hopefully we get that feature in the future

aaah freedoms, until someone pays for it not to be.

money money money!!

Conspiracy theorists will conspiracy.

It's probably got nothing to do with this and everything to do with shooting better night/dark photos.

It would be amazing if technology could stop cameras being used at concerts.

Good luck with that

Mybb I am dissapoint.

Link to patent

Even without looking at the patent you can guess how something like this would work. There would be some kind of infra-red transmitter at the stage and when you point your camera at it the camera would detect the infra-red signal and disable itself. Obviously when you leave/don't point your camera at the performance it wouldn't receive the signal at the configured parameters and would work again.

But i can already see this becoming a cat and mouse game with software/hardware hacks and even just placing a filter that rejects all infra-red radiation over the camera lens.

hence my original comment, good luck with that!
