I can't figure out where it's going..

If you open a widget, sometimes the only way to close it is to use the button. It disappears, but does it continue using 3g data?

I do have WhatsApp running, but thats just small IM text and nothing else.

One to watch is DragonDictate which uses the intenet without you knowing.

Any tips please?

No, apps don't use data in the background generally. Dragondictate does it's voice recognition on remote servers so yes it uses internet.

Had the same prob, disabled push on facebook, ebuddy, etc.. Disabled automatic image downloading on email, and its alot better now

Dont think its WhatsApp as I also use it and my bandwidth problems were resolved

It was doing about 100MB a day, from g-d knows where

Only thing I can add is to watch out for location aware applications as well.

100MB per day, what were you doing? I've had my phone for 3 weeks now and I've only used 100MB

Nothing, thats the point.. Since disabling those features I dont even hit 100MB in a month

I used 150mb in 4 days, so I'm panicking about loading a new bundle.

OK, I turned off 3G and things settled down a bit, but now it had a 'surge' of use and my latest bundle has been used. I only ran WhatsApp, one text message and it's all gone.

Is there an app that can tell me which one used all or most of the data?

I have data counter and data manager, which shows 3G and WiFi data count

The native OS already shows usage for data. I don't use Wifi (at the moment), so if it says 100mb of data used, it's not going to help. I need to know which is the offending app.

@fader4 - it seems you have other, more pressing issues, perhaps of a psychological nature.

@OP I had exactly the same thing, mysterious data usage, bundles disappearing overnight. Turning off all push notifications etc didn't help. Eventually I did a restore, on adding new apps didn't allow push per app as well as globally and the problem seemed to happen less frequently. Its a worrying glitch that I never managed to properly diagnose. What do your data usage logs from your service provider look like?

I've had the same problem and so has the wife. We both turned off 3G and Cellular data network that stopped it. The wife's bill was R1600.00 for data. Now only turn on the the 3G and cellular data when we want to use it - bit of a pain but better than the bill :).

This only started happening after the upgrade to Os 4

I have the same problem. I have dataman installed and with no applications running, location services switched off, push notifications off, the data counter still increases every few minutes by about 50kb. Maybe it's a vodacom thing not an iPhone thing?

Also on Vodacom. Makes me wonder.

I'm on VC as well but don't experience issues as you do. Only thing you can do is backup all your apps then delete the ones you think that uses data from your iPhone thereafter install one at a time and monitor your data. You should find the culprit.
