iPhone vs Android

Pah!

Downloaded from the comfort of my bed/braai-room/garden/heck...even loo! :o )
And all the ease in the world copying from the phone to my trusty USB OTG 32GB flashdrive for watching on the telly.
Gotta love the Android freedom of choice. No fascist big daddy calling the shots like with Apple.
So I guess no Llama or Tasker apps either on Iphone?

Flash drive?!

So 2000s. I use my iDevice or rMBP to AirPlay straight to the TV with Apple TV. My iPhone 3GS can even AirPlay.

What's so hard about doing it the other way around? Much easier than fiddling with a phone screen and limited storage to manage downloads.

Well, I'm currently battling a virus on my PC due to the above procedure. I'd rather not have to do that on my phone.

You know perfectly well what the answer to that is.
Weak argument sorry.

Seems like an odd way to do things - I just queue my downloads from the phone straight to the media server.

Actually VERY easy. Almost too easy haha.
And yes, Tasker and Llama are probably the best apps in the world. And Android exclusive.

Can you transfer to a flash drive from your iPhone? What's the cost of an Apple TV vs a Chromecast?

No you can't. I've, really, never needed to either. I don't store content on my iPhones that cannot be transferred to my Windows/Mac PCs with iTunes/Image Capture/Dropbox/Google Drive etc., and vice versa from my PCs to my iPhones.

That's not to say I don't understand how it can be advantageous to some. How often do you, and what data?

Some people don't need dedicated media servers...

Janeeeeeeeeee kyk!

I have: TV, USB stick. Android phone. That's it.
I hardly ever need to use my pc. Too much hassles.
And no toiling with complicated (PITA) media servers that needs to run 24/7.

I do, especially when visiting a friend and they need something off my tablet. These are non-technical people mind you.

It's something I really honestly don't want to do on my G2 so for me it's completely moot. It sounds like a fiddly headache and I have a pretty good download management system going on my 7tbs of PC disk space.

And I will NEVER share my cloud accounts with my buddies. Tsk. But I dont mind sharing my USB OTG drive. Or using a wifi-direct/dlna app to send the files from my phone to theirs.

What do you have on there?

Also not everybody is technically minded to have a good router setup to easily transfer files between devices.

OTG is so much simpler cause you're taking the pc out from the equation plus you can use other hardware like wireless keyboards etc.

Apple doesn't even support WiFi direct...

I understand. For me, I would never be storing anything like that on a tablet, phone, etc.

I'm sure Apple's closed ecosystem has contributed somewhat, but it's mostly because that's just me.
