My contract lapses in a months time and I cannot decide if I should move away from the bells and whistles of a smart phone and just get a good ‘simple phone’ again or go for the iPhone. The iPhone looks great, BUT I keep comparing it to buying a PC+MP3 player AND going for the ‘simpler’ phone+contract.

Currently I have a HTC and it has great features, but in my opinion a crap slow phone!

What would you do? :confused:

In short: get a new HTC.

Which one do you have now? The new HTC's are considerably quicker than the previous ones, and are fantastic phones!

The S710Vox.... nope i think I've lost all faith in HTC based on my exp with this one. :(

Battery is quite an issue if you using the iphone to browse alot and listen to music alot!!

I had a s710 and now have the Diamond 2 - can't even compare the two. The Vox was slow and an entry level phone, the Diamond 2 is a serious piece of hardware.

@Speedster : tx - I'll give it a try before I buy ;-)

@phiber : that's what gets to me with feature rich phones, if I want a MP3 player, I'll buy one, if I wanted a GPS, etc etc... I usually need the phone 1st and the rest is nice to have.

If you still want HTC phone, locate their offices (leaf, eg Centuary city, Cape Town). They have a whole lot of phones including Hero, diamond 2 and Pro 2 (which i currently own, an awesome piece of machinery). I refuse to pay R400+ for a contract phone which i ve never tested. Hero is also niece except for a small screen

How about a compromise? I got a Nokia 5800 and love it - watching video, reading, and listening to music are pretty much all I care about and this phone excels.

Mind you I do like the iPhone - puts the 5800 to shame software-wise (as it does just about every other phone on the market including every single HTC phone).

But man if buying an iPhone means you can't have a PC - just don't get it. Go with something else.

I won't EVER buy another Windows Mobile phone... I've had 3 HTC's, the last one being the Touch Diamond, and it was HORRIBLY SLOW!!!!! If you get a phone with Windows Mobile, then you FAIL!

There is only one phone on the market, and that's the iPhone. If you don't own an iPhone, then you simply can't comment ;)

I have had about 5 x HTC's devices - 2 weeks ago i switched to an iPhone 3gs...Will NEVER touch a Windows Mobile phone again.

iPhone is the best device i have ever used!
