Hey guys,

So as the title says I'm aware that the warranty period for iPhones is only a year and I'm on a 2 year MTN contract...I'm lucky enough to have my iPhone deemed broken (beyond repair, it needs replacement) by the iStore repair centre. So is there a way MTN will replace the unit (iPhone 6)? Or do I still continue paying for my broken handset

You will most likely still have to pay.

So when you write off your car you want to stop paying for the finance?

Why do people never read the terms of their contracts? Also why don't they insure phones that are worth so much that they couldn't afford to replace it?

9. Risk and ownership

9.1. Who owns the Mobile Device? If we give you a Mobile Device or you buy one from us as a part of the Package Option chosen by you, we will own the Mobile Device until the end of the Minimum Term or until you have paid the full Purchase Price with any Cancellation Charges that may be due to us (whichever happens first). If you cancel the Contract early (as set out in clause 18.2, 'When can you cancel the Contract'), we own the Mobile Device until you pay us the full Purchase Price and the full Cancellation Charges.

Clause 9 is important. You are responsible or Liable if the SIM Card or Mobile Device has defects or is lost, damaged or stolen after delivery or collection. We will not be responsible or Liable for any damage or defects from the delivery or collection date (as far as the law allows).

15.1 Insurance - We do not insure your Mobile Device automatically. You must choose an insurance provider and sign an insurance agreement to insure the cost of your Mobile Device or you must ask us to insure it for you. (See clause 16.2 below for more information)

So to answer your question:
MTN owns the phone, but they are not responsible for it not working, you are. If it has a 1 year warranty and you are still in the first year, take it back to MTN and see if they will replace it. If you are passed the 1 year then you are stuffed.
