iPhone won't charge.

I have purchased a new iPhone and have been trying to charge it but without success. The only screen I am getting when I press the wake button is a battery with a red single bar indicating that the iphone needed to be charged. The wall charger seem not to be working because the phone ends up not showing anything after I have plugged it on the wall for hours. But as soon as I plug the phone on my PC USB it shows the battery with a red bar again and then goes off.

I pressed both the power and menu button simultaneously and now the phone shows a stable battery with a single red bar and electricity symbol.

Thank you. I managed to charge the phone and even connected it to my wifi at home and at work. I however cannot get a Network working. I have inserted my current 32K Vodacom Sim card which the phone accepted but I can make or receive any calls.

Perhaps take it to the store where you bought it and get them to exchange it?

AFAIK you have 7 days to do so if you iphone fails OTB (out the box).
