iPhone3G Official Blog

Uhm.

According to the iPhone dev team, you can currently only jailbreak the iPhone 3G and not unlock it.

You can unlock an iPhone (1st gen) with the 2.0 software on it though! I just unlocked one right now, very entertaining!

Have you signed up for the SA iTunes store? I see you can now sign up. While it mentions the store will not allow purchases you can add the free apps to your cart and download them (I have just done this with Twitterific). Would be interesting to see if you can install them on your newly updated iPhone.

Yes I have and yes you can :-) All the free apps work great. The best one is the itunes remote...

Cool! I will be waiting till installer is available for 2.0 before updating the SO's phone, for the moment however she is digging through the AppStore :)

I am running 1.1.4 and used Aiphone to unlock my first gen phone. I would like to update and would like to know of a good how to link.

Had a look at this one.

Any suggestions would be great

Thanks

The iClarified guides are always good, so if you have a Mac follow that. Else there is a work-around for Windows users here: http://sleepers.net/news/2008/07/20/pwnage-option-for-windows-users/

Some people have reported that simply downloading the custom firmware and restoring from iTunes has worked for them without all the fanfare. Note however that there is as yet no new installer version so you will not have access to any of the community apps.

morkhans, I have downloaded all the software and ready to go. I am not so bummed for the installer as I am after the exchange support for my work email. I am also looking forward the app store. I am on MTN so do I need anything specific for it to work?

cheers

Yup there are some cool things in the app store, should console you till installer is out :)

Just follow the steps in the guide. You obviously want to unlock otherwise your MTN SIM won't work :)

You on Mac or Windows?

Mac running leopard 10.5.4 and I just installed Itunes 7.7. I have the bootloader 3.9 and 4.6 files and the 20 .ipsw restore file from the apple site. So I am ready to go. Oh yes I also have pwnage 2.0.1.

Just to clarify, must I restore to the new software with itunes and then start the process or can I just go from my 1.1.4 ziphone unlock phone to the new custom firmware file?

cheers

Time to pick a thread. You have fxit_man in the other thread answering the same questions :)

OMG. Spelling errors, the link in your sig is wrong and you want to administer a forum?

Shardie, can I give you a heads up about your forum? Take the constructive criticism...

Start small and build. A forum with too many "catagories" or "rooms" is difficult to surf, especially if most of the topics will overlap. I would start with 3 catagories. iPhone General Chat, For Sale/Swap and Off Topic.

As the general chat grows, and the forum becomes too busy - you then open up a catagory for the most popluar of topic - ie unlocking or app's from the app store. You keep building as the forum gets busier and busier.

It's how this place started after all.

:-)

Drop me a PM if you wanna chat about it!!
