Apple could be forced to redesign iPhone 13 to use USB-C charging port

Apple Inc. may have to redesign its iPhones to use USB-C charging ports under draft rules from the European Union aimed at cutting waste and simplifying life for consumers owning multiple devices.

In a move that could signal the end of Apple’s Lightning cable on iPhones, the European Commission said Thursday it wants a single type of charging port to be used for all smartphones and tablets as well as equipment such as cameras, some headphones, portable speakers and handheld video consoles.

I'm sure the common charger debate has been going on for years and everyone - barring Apple - already have USB C ?

What happens when they bring out a new USB standard, will they have to wait for EU approval

Talking in general, not just Apple

why should Apple care,? simply come out with a new phone with the new plug, downgrade the old ones to stop working slowly,
and the Sheeple will buy the iGarbage with a new plug, problem solved, all hail Apple!
"The only thing that has changed, is everything. The USB-C port on the new iPhone is a ground breaking innovation that makes your iPhone charge quicker on more devices"

The USB spec is a mess, this problem already happened when mobile devices originally got the USB-C connector.
Wrong chargers, wrong cables, devices without protection etc.
