Hi.

Well a friend of mine brought his 20gb ipod classic 4th gen. He only has the cable that connects to the pc but not the charger that goes into the wall socket. But AFAIK it should charge through the USB port.

Well all it shows is a low battery sign but then after a while connected to the pc via usb it shows some kind of a wall charger. Im not sure but i took some photos.

Here:

Can anyone help?
Thanks

iPods charge via 2 methods: USB (5V) and Firewire (12V). The Firewire method is now deprecated and doesn't work on newer iPods, however it should work on that one because clearly the USB isn't working.

Try putting it on an iPod dock since most of them charge with the Firewire method. Anyway if the battery is kaput you should only be able to play it docked.

If that fails, you can maybe try replacing the battery manually. I've seen them go for like R300.

Otherwise, I might be interested in buying the iPod from your friend, but ya, good luck!

How long did you leave it charging for? When an ipod battery goes completely flat it takes a while (about 30mins) for it show that it's charging. And did you connect it to the computer's built in USB port because it won't be able to charge very well from a non-powered hub or external device. You can buy adapters from most electrical shops which will allow you to connect the USB cable to a wall plug - I got one that was quite cheap.

Well i read the apple manual and it said that in this case it needs to be charged from the wall socket via a power adapter, coz that gives 1A where as the usb only give 500mA (max) or 300mA (on average)..
so now im looking for a power adapter that allows me to put the usb cable in it..

tell me will a newer ipod charger work in this case?
