Indeed
Well said
PSP and iPod both have video capabilities but PSP has the far superior gaming options.

Ahh, I wasn't clear or I just didn't read your post properly. :o

I use it to charge. I still have to sync with USB. :)

Phew - thought I was losing my mind - again :D

LOL. Np. Well since the advent of USB 2.0, its become easier to connect using USB rather than firewire.

My laptop has both but I can boot using an ipod if I use firewire - so there's nothing easier about it for me. I also have an older machine that has USB 1.1 and firewire - you dont have to guess which I prefer :(

from personal experience the PSP is a bit of a gimmick I would go for the ipod or even one of the portable media players...

Don't get either

The PSP is only for "backseat of car" gaming.

Don't get any IPod. I hate any appliance (it's white ain't it?) that forces me to use their software. Especailly if the software is as rubbish as Itunes. it does not run on Windows x64 properly, it breaks you IE and you can't just plug your Ipod into any PC and use it as a portable hard drive without Itunes.

If only Apple made it to work with anything, then they would really take over the market. But they know the real money is in the Itunes online store. LISTEN UP APPLE: I WANT CHOICE!!!

My honest opinion: Portable video players are useless. The screen is too small, they are too big and the sound quality is rubbish. get a nice MP3 player like the 6GB Creative Neoon or the IRiver and stick to watching Movies on a TV. The creative only weighs only 75 grams including the battery and is a far better day-to-day companion

I did the research a month ago deciced on ipod

games -- psp
multimedia --- ipod

no better equation out there
psp does multimedia but not as good as ipod

The PSP has a very large screen (with 16:9 aspect ratio), it does video way better than the iPod and the quality is amazing. However the main flaw is it's storage capacity, which is nowhere near that of the iPod. That's why the iPod is generally better for multimedia - you can store so much more.

Wow - factually almost completely wrong - I cant judge what it does to IE as I refuse to use it. I wont judge you on your dislike of itunes but there is other software - hell - you can even load linux on it.

A quick google revealed this if you're not a fan of itunes - iPod without iTunes: The self-sustaining iPod and there's plenty more to be found at www.ilounge.com

Well, depends what you want it for. If you want a portable gaming device with super expensive games and can be used for some multimedia stuff - get a PSP. Personally, I would buy a DS Lite and an Ipod though, if that was my request!

Can Ipod play Ogg Vorbis files?

I've been thinking about getting a decent music player that can double as a portable hdd, something like an Ipod... but it must be able to play Ogg...

I asked a guy in Hi-Fi Corruption once if they had any players that could read Ogg files...
He was like: "Huh?? Dude I've got no idea what you're talking about?"

Thanks Bwana, I've just 'freed' my iPod... works like a charm. I see they even going to support video files soon.

Have a look at Rockbox. Never used it myself though.

ATM no ipods support ogg vorbis, but as mentioned the alternative Rockbox firmware can do it - it's a very techie/geky option though - wierd interface, a bit buggy, etc etc.

Having said that - why do you feel you need Ogg? Are all your files in Ogg?

Yep, I only use Ogg - I'm a Linux user, and Ogg is defintely the best format from that perspective... actually I think it's better than MP3 from any perspective :p :D
But mainly I just have a preference for OSS
