Thats odd as everything I've read says they dropped firewirePloempie said:If you are talking about the iPod Video, then it does have firewire capabilities. I connect using firewire. It doesn't come in the standard package but the adapters and cables are available.
My apologies if this is not what you are talking about.![]()
iPod Video abandons FireWire completely; not only does it ship with a USB cable, there's no FireWire circuitry present.
And countless Apple Discussions:Indeed, you can't sync over FireWire even if you buy the cable separately; you can, however, charge over FireWire.
Phew - thought I was losing my mind - againPloempie said:Ahh, I wasn't clear or I just didn't read your post properly.![]()
I use it to charge. I still have to sync with USB.![]()
My laptop has both but I can boot using an ipod if I use firewire - so there's nothing easier about it for me. I also have an older machine that has USB 1.1 and firewire - you dont have to guess which I preferPloempie said:LOL. Np. Well since the advent of USB 2.0, its become easier to connect using USB rather than firewire.
Wow - factually almost completely wrong - I cant judge what it does to IE as I refuse to use it. I wont judge you on your dislike of itunes but there is other software - hell - you can even load linux on it.Sapphiron said:Don't get any IPod. I hate any appliance (it's white ain't it?) that forces me to use their software. Especailly if the software is as rubbish as Itunes. it does not run on Windows x64 properly, it breaks you IE and you can't just plug your Ipod into any PC and use it as a portable hard drive without Itunes.

A quick google revealed this if you're not a fan of itunes - iPod without iTunes: The self-sustaining iPod and there's plenty more to be found at www.ilounge.com
Have a look at Rockbox. Never used it myself though.redarrow said:Can Ipod play Ogg Vorbis files?
I've been thinking about getting a decent music player that can double as a portable hdd, something like an Ipod... but it must be able to play Ogg...
I asked a guy in Hi-Fi Corruption once if they had any players that could read Ogg files...
He was like: "Huh?? Dude I've got no idea what you're talking about?"![]()
Thanks for the link, that looks pretty cool! OSS firmware .. my kinda thingbwana v.12 said:Have a look at Rockbox. Never used it myself though.
Yep, I only use Ogg - I'm a Linux user, and Ogg is defintely the best format from that perspective... actually I think it's better than MP3 from any perspectiveArtagra said:Having said that - why do you feel you need Ogg? Are all your files in Ogg?
