I have an irritating problem, the traffic department in South Africa sends fine notices to my dad's cell number. Every single time I get a speeding fine, they sms him and he proudly forwards the email to me with a smiley face. Nothing more irritating than that.

I really wonder how they got his number attached to my profile.
Does anyone know how/where I can change his number to my cell number? Do I approach the traffic offices and update this?

As far as I know, it's in my name. Still paying it off though.

South Africa doesn't have a traffic department, rather each municipality does.

So they are the ones who have your details.

I would imagine it would change if you update your address upon re-licensing.

Lol some of you guys, as if you don't speed.

To the OP, I feel your pain, I don't think there's much you can do. The municipality is the one with the details, if you still live with your dad and the residence is in his name then it's obvious.
I think you'd need to move out (change address), then go to the traffic place and update your details.

Until then, stop speeding. If I may ask, how much are the fines?

Oh joy here comes the herp squad. How fitting that you live on the east rand.

Actually no, I don't speed there really is no reason for it. You realise you still get from A to B without having to speed?

Insert not interested emoticon here

These make sense, thank you guys. When I purchased the car I was still living with him, I haven't changed most of residence things.
Most I got fined was R800, latest one is R350 72 in a 60 zone.

I am totally not comfortable in 60km zones, i will slow down at the camera sign in case there is one but beyond that I am more comfortable at 80km/h, It will be chaos on the roads if we all crawl along at 60km/h, i do feel cars have advanced and I feel that 60km/h speed should be reviewed, it's only good enough for deeply rural areas and very limited places in urban areas.

Fortunately I have received only two speeding tickets since I started driving, all for 60 zones, i could have received more if every stretch of the road was manned. Not receiving tickets does not say much about your driving tendencies.

Cars are not the issue unfortunately. Roads in most provinces are. Roads, pedestrians and animals.

No speeding tickets here. I've only ever paid 2 speeding tickets totalling R375. Yeah.

:D
