Is 144hz worth it

It's two years later now.

And we are halfway through November.

What is the recommended purchase for gamers now?

Here's bound to be some good options:

Personally, I'm still rocking my Dell S2721DGFA and it's been great, but I have an itch that needs scratching.
The AW3423DWF looks nice, but at 34" it's still only as high as a 27" monitor.
OR
I can get a 42" LG C2 or C3 when it goes on sale again. It's only 120Hz, but nice and big. I can also use custom resolutions to only use a portion of it for ultrawide resolutions if I want to mimic that AW34DWF.

What prompted this itch?
I was at a gaming expo and saw all the games shown off on 42"+ TVs/monitors, and even games with average graphics looked great. Now I want it.
I was sure I wanted the AW3423DWF, but after looking at all those games I looked at a 34" ultrawide they had there and it looked so tiny.

In the end I'll probably just dream and never actually go through with spending that much money on a screen I'll only use for 6 hours a week.

I bought the Huawei Mateview GT a few months ago and it's awesome if you're looking for an affordable 1440p 144Hz Ultrawide monitor.

haven't seen the lg 42" oled here but you can get the 48" c3 for R18999
