Hi Guys,

Anyone else experiencing issues getting onto 3G in your area? Dashboard request passowrd / pin. My Novatel flashes red once or twice and instead of finding a signal switches to bright red.

The dashboard just shows Aquiring...

I left it this way for hours... still no luck? It was working fine up until Sunday evening. Nothing has changed otherwise. No dashboard changes and no firmware upgrades.

Also took the sim out and tried it in a phone to make sure there is still cash on it (incase I ran out of data bundle) there was cash sure enough. So checked my provisionining. It has been provisioned for data...

Very confused and disconnected from the outside world :(

PS: Using work connection to post, hope someone can help me get online.

Cheers.

Slovak, I have been having trouble with it since yesterday in Bryanston ... only able to get GPRS connections, if connecting at all

I'm not getting ANY connection at all :(

Although when I switched once to GPRS it flashed green a few times and then went bright red.

So it almost connected but couldn't.

The error when trying to connect is obviously 619 because the port is infact busy, busy trying to aquire connection to the network.

Anyone have ideas?

No worries. If anyone else is having the same problem please let me know. This is probably the last straw, will be moving to iBurst.

Say WHAT?! Are you insane? I am on iBurst at home (never had any real issues and pretty decent speeds) but lately they are crap beyond belief. Will start looking at ADSL or even HSDPA solution for home.

Be VERY careful with iBurst, their networks are pretty clogged up at the moment

But yeah, every time we have a power cut here in Bryanston, it takes about 48 hours to get the HSDPA/3G network working properly again ... today I don't even get 3G signal

Which I find rather unacceptable :) It means no connection for atleast 48hrs.

iBurst may not be the best choice but in terms of connectivity I am able to to after hour business. I must second your idea of moving to ADSL, I had it for two years and had only 3 days of downtime which was spread over the 2 years :) The speeds were constant and not subject to network congestion. The reason I don't want to go this route again is the price factor and binding month to month paymet.

I like being able to throttle my own usage when I need to ;) Also let me clarify, when I am saying no 3G signal, I am referring to no 3G or 3.5G (AKA HSDPA).

I had endless problems yesterday evening - could not connect, called 155 and eventually managed (after yet another control panel/reboot cycle, this time a usb shuffle was recommended as well).

Anyways, the only connection that I could get, was on 2G (sometimes even MTN Roaming 2g).

Had to get urgent stuff to a client this morning, was just as pathetic - could only manage a 2G connection ...

ps - all of this in Pretoria East, close to Woodhill Country Club

Bryanston seems sorted for me:

Download Speed: 953 kbps (119.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 310 kbps (38.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

I'll try tonight again. Have to attend to the stuff I have after hours. Thanks for the update!

Nextstep > I feel your pain!

No luck last night either, and I verified I have 500mb left so it isn't a data bundle issue.

I am going to have to cut my losses. Cheers 3G users.

I can't rule that out, if it is then trying it on another network is a test. Anyone have details for Virgin Mobile?

Was very unhappy with service anyway and will still be going iBurst or (after looking at the rates) ADSL.

Cheers.

Have answers chaps!

Vodacom has kindly informed me that my data card was blacklisted??? How the hell?

What is worse is that in order to de-list the card I need original proof of purchase. Hell I can't even remember the place I bought it from (second hand) in Cape Town.

Atleast I understand what went wrong, what is strange is the card was blacklisted a while ago (the techy at vodacom said this) and its strange it only affected me now?

Something really messed up here and i'll have to cut my losses on the 500mb I had over.

What did you pay for the card? Do you still have contact with the person you bought it from? Sounds like he acquired it in a non-legal fashion? (I assume you paid him :))

You probably should go to the police.

Hi there,

I paid around 1,200.00 for the card. Can't remember the exact amount and it was bought through what I thought was a legit business in Cape Town. The card was second hand and the ad stated this - perhaps my first warning?

If I still had proof of payment i'd definitely make more of a stink on this.

Please post the name of the business. You believe(d) it legit, so there should be no worry. That will enable future customers to keep track of deals, make sure there eare no problems, etc.
I reckon it would be very public spirited of you
