Did Cell C fix throughput issues on 3G that they've been battling with most of the year.

Is 3G now working on Cell C in Gauteng?

I haven't had a problem in quite a while with my Cell C 3G throughput - touch wood :p

I have given up on them - have a 100GB sim expiring in Dec with 90GB left - was unable to use this, Cell C just never worked.

Cell C did mention they were adding extra stations in Gauteng. They have not since provided an update on the roll out. They mentioned they would be done by the end of this year but we all know how things tend to go African time :D

During previous weekend I noticed modem constantly jumping to new Cell ID's and back, giving constant delays. I found that modem has switched to 2100MHz. Forced 900MHz, it could register, but there were no data flow. I forced 2100MHz manually, connection was stable. On Monday 2100MHz signal disappeared. It was definitely some work in this area.

I tried to use up some airtime yesterday, but only had 2G reception (Joburg near Wanderers).

I will try my old E272 today, it does not support 900MHz.

How do you force a modem to use 900MHz or 2100MHz? My modem just gives me 3G Access only or 2G Access only or Dual Mode :(

In MDMA or Generic Huawei dashboard. If you know how to use AT commands, you can try it from any COM terminal program like Hyperterminal. Relevant commands had been posted on this forum.

Location, location, location. I had it good though, At one time I was downloading a Meg a second and more.

^ this. At home (and at the office) I can barely get 1Mbps with very iffy throughput yet 5km away from home I can over 12Mbps with seemingly constant/stable throughput. Seems to be the case with MTN as well i.e. "location, location, location"

I have been having serious network issues this whole week so far. I live in the Mondeor area, and normally have a perfect service, I used my giga night contract mostly for gaming and never experienced problems, but this week I have not been able to play any games online, due to high pings and my connection being dropped. Have the same signal strength I always have, but there is little to no throughput

Hi Japster, Please PM me your contact details and street address, I will check if there are any issues with the tower you are connecting to. *DM*

No, things in Alberton was better for a while but the last couple of days it went pear shaped again.

Far from Joburg, but data reception is reliably useless in Port Elizabeth/Uitenhage. It jumps between HSDPA/3G/EDGE all the time and even when your phone shows HSDPA, it still takes 5 attempts to even connect to the google.co.za mobile site!

My Vodacom is doing that atm, my CellC on the other hand is working perfectly. Will always be heavily reliant on location, sometimes city to city, sometimes even house to house makes a difference.

I've tested all three connections in my little area, it would rate CellC -> MTN -> Vodacom
