Is Afrihost SAIX or Internet Solutions?

All Afrihost ADSL Broadband package bandwidth is supplied using the Internet Solutions bandwidth for maximum stability and reliability. Internet Solutions is recognised as the leading provider of Internet bandwidth and connectivity in South Africa.

All international bandwidth is brought to you by fibre optic links on the undersea SAT3 or Seacom cable and NOT via Satellite.

This means that you will enjoy a faster surfing experience with all of our packages without any of the latency associated with satelite connectivity.

With the Afrihost ADSL plans you can choose exactly how much bandwidth you want available for your use on a monthly basis. If you run out and need more bandwidth you can easily get more at any time in the month.

There are no contracts and you can cancel your plan with 30 days notice.

:)

I haven't had any trouble with Afrihost speeds or stability so no worries.

Title says it all.

I ask because I remember IS ADSL to be rubbish. Of course, I last used it many years ago.. so I suppose it could have changed. Has it?

if you do a traceroute on one of their IP's (www infact) you will see it goes to IS

In the beginning, many years ago, IS only used Satellite links, but they have moved over to the undersea cable years ago. I think they still use satellite for backup links when the undersea cable goes down, but I could be wrong.

Pings are as good as SAIX in most cases.

Latency on IS can be a bit higher, depending on the peering links I guess? If I ping www.mweb.co.za with my saix account I get 30 ping, but with my FNB connect (which is IS based) I get 70. International pings however seem to be the opposite. I usually get about 300 to google on IS and 350 with Saix.

It rocks now! I love it. It is at least as good as if not better than SAIX in my opinion.

Afrihost is neither SAIX, nor IS - those are 2 different companies :)
This guy clearly missed the boat...

It is not whether Afrihost is either of them or not, but about whether they are reselling IS or SAIX accounts. Which they are in fact reselling IS accounts. Yes the OP obviously wasn't exactly clear about it but a smart person only needs half a sentence to know what someone is saying/asking.

This guy clearly missed the smiley face at the end of the sentence as well. Why is everyone on this list so serious the whole time?

I literally interpreted the OP's question, and responded with an answer accordingly.

YES, Afrihost resells IS, but EVERYONE else already mentioned it. I just put some ...... oh, nm!

Yeah code, the IS news server does work with Afrihost.. its a bit weird though. Afrihost latency is awesome, the speeds are amazing.. but yet when you get a IS uncapped account (directly from IS) its absolutely shocking.

Interesting I just recommended to a customer that has 2x IS 4meg uncapped lines, to cancel them and just by 200 gig's of Afrihost bandwidth for this exact reason. When we chatted to IS about why we are only getting 1.4 meg's max on a 4meg uncapped service they just say its an up to 4 meg service with a guarantee of 1 meg. But when we tell them we get 4 meg on the same line using Afrihost, they then say well it's IS bandwidth duhhh exactly my point... basically IS uncapped is not worth it.

I'm sold - I'll give Afrihost a try. Thanks, all.

I am sure you won't regret it, just remember that they will ask you for you ID for verification purposes, please do not start a post about this, it's been done a million times already.

And if you want even further proof as to where Afrihost get their bandwidth, just go and do a speedtest.net ....guess what the ISP will be... "Internet Solutions" .
