Is Cellc $crewing us all over ???

The only way it can be cheaper than adsl, is if you are a casual user, needing "megs".
When you start talking multiple Gigs, it is certainly NOT cheaper (R29/Gig for ADSL vs R200/Gig for CellC)

It's way cheaper for me, the line costs just kill ADSL - BTW, I don't download pirated video, so 9 or 10GB per month is plenty for me. In fact 5GB per month is often enough.

BTW : Cell C costs R1999 / 60 = R33 per GB.

My ADSL costs (R554 + R133) / 9 = R76.33 per GB (Telkom Do 2)
Getting bandwidth from someone else won't help because the main cost is the fixed line costs.

And the Cell C is much faster.

I have excluded modems from both scenarios, because they cost the same.

This is why SA get's screwed by the ISPs
It is because of people like you guys who are WILLING to get screwed with a smile, having convinced yourself that you have made a good deal.

Why do we need to convince ourselves we "made the right choice"?

R2.00 per mb OOB rates are Atrocious! how dare they try to sell us that? Even MTN doesn't do that! (19c)

Lol, the less of you guys join the better I say, it means I still got a good wireless gaming connection for the next 12 months and as for the scam... How is it a scam to sell a product prepaid with a 12 month data offering while openingly saying the network is in roll out and that a customer should be responsible to check coverage on the website.

I think many of the users who have got the covearge are very happy with thier purchase and if prices go up in 1 year...uh its a prepaid device not a contract so who gives a ff**k and like one of the posters said I'll vote eith my cash.

Well I don't know about you guys, but they have been dancing all around the scene lately and are making too many stuff ups

Their Logo Flop, their "4G" Scam, Trevor the clown - all they care about is marketing, and they are good at it.

As for putting R3000 down in hope of a signal next year....good luck.
These guys openly admitted to starting with small towns so they can basically figure out how to put a mast up properly

nah, i'll pass for now - their network isn't anywhere near 22mbps, and it's basically empty now - just you guys wait till a few users sign up.

I knew it was too good to be true that a dinky toy network could just one day decide to provide 3G and be better at it than Multi-Billion Rand Company like Vodacom or MTN.

It might as well have been Virgin that suddenly says "We are going to provide the bestestz 4G Netwerk EVAR!"

seriously, this would be like "Raj's Juice Company" claiming they are going to make better cola's then the Coca Cola Company itself - it just doesn't work that way and it rarely happens.

A week ago I would have joined CellC in an instant and take a Risk........ but these prices?..... I seriously don't think so!

@wnderbees - "How exactly is Cell C screwing anybody over? "
Well, we can't be certain at THIS moment, but who says their network will hold next year?

Neotel also had good deals, and now people are stuck with 24 month contracts and 12kbps download speeds
and yes, their network worked pretty well at first too, when neotel just just started.

Who cares? At Vodacom it's R389 for 2Gig.
I paid 2k for the data sim, so if the network can retain it's quality for 5 months I would of already scored 15Gigs extra data for the same price as Vodacom.
Than I have 7 months extra to decide my next move, if you stick with Vodacom your screwing yourself more than CellC could ever hope to.

I don't like the whole "endorsed by mybroadband.co.za" anymore. The ads on radio suggest that we are all happy with their pricing. We were happy until they released the data bundle pricing. It is obvious why they took so long to reveal data bundle pricing. So that they can get 2 months of positive feedback and recomendations for people to switch to Cell C.

They only offer the contract for R299pm with a modem as well. I want a contract without a modem as I am a smartphone user and this contract should be boltable to any Cell C sim that I have.

Right now it's R2999 for 5GB per month with a modem and R299 per month on contract.
You also get R1999 for 5GB per month without a modem. I want a contract for 5GB at R199 per month for 12 months.
I know that I can just buy a R1999 sim but I dont want to have to keep swapping sims.

I'm much better off now with CellC than I was 2 months ago with VC. Much much cheaper for me and the speed has been much better too so far...
So I'll say no, Cellc is NOT $crewing us all over.
Obviously if you need more than 5Gb a month there are better options - take them - doesn't mean anyone is $crewing you over, you have a choice!
For me CellC's deal is great!

Vodacom and MTN apparently think that CELLC's pricing structure is not a sustainable business model. Potential CellcC customer's are still tied down with existing contracts , and it appears that the monolopy of the big two will continue to milk the cash cow dry.

Most revenue is generated by call costs and sms's, and with VOIP taking over and alot of other IM apps, it appears that service providers will $crew you for every cent possible.

Agree with you 100% ....

I've signed up 2 weeks ago and I'm very impressed, especially reliability. I'm not too concerned about speeds.

So I will also say Cell C is NOT $crewing us all over.

Okay, lets get something straight here - a lot of us are complaining about the bundle prices while others are praising the 60GB once off special.

The once off special is great, fine, we all know that - now, lets move on as that is old news.

Right now, we are discussing their BUNDLE PRICES. Their OOB Rates. stuff like that.

I don't get how just because it's a once off deal you get to pay R50 per Gig, but if you want to buy bundles the same R50 gets you a measly 100mb.
seriously whats the difference?
The special aint gonna last forever you know!

Okay, lets get something straight here - a lot of us are complaining about the bundle prices while others are praising the 60GB once off special.

I get that but the title of the thread is 'Is Cellc $crewing us all over' so I had to put in my 2c and say no, they are not.
If you are paying OOB rates then maybe they are screwing you over, but then, since you chose to sign up and buy a bundle or agreed to pay OOB rates then it seems to me that you are screwing yourself over as no one forces you to use cellc. So the the answer is still no - they are not $crewing us all over - they are not $crewing anyone over - they put an offer on the table, take it or leave it, there are other offers out there

I think the problem is that after the initial shake-up we were expecting Cell C to do something dramatic with their bundle prices and OOB rates too, they were even saying 'watch this space' when questions were asked in other threads - giving the impression it was going to be good! But then it didn't materialize. I wouldn't have even made a point of announcing these new rates at all, they're really nothing special...

I posted in another thread what sort of rates I was expecting, and sadly they missed the mark by some distance - I mean it's cheaper than before, but still a big rip-off...

OOB rate of 50c/MB

Bundles:
100MB @ R30 (30c/MB)
200MB @ R50 (25c/MB)
500MB @ R80 (16c/MB)
1GB @ R110 (11c/MB)

So the data promotions are AWESOME, but the bundles are nothing to write home about. Cheaper than the competition (below 2GB), but far off our expectations.

But the BIGGEST disappointment was not the bundle prices, but rather that horrible OOB rate of R2/MB! I simply can't believe that that was not lowered. R2000/Gig is quite simply daylight robbery Cell C!

This has all kinda made me sad, I really and truly wanted Cell C to kick the living s*** out of those bastards at Vodacom and MTN - but now it doesn't look like that's going to happen in the long run... :(

EDIT: Just to be clear, I don't think Cell C are screwing anyone over - they just didn't quite live up to expectations... Except for that R2/MB OOB rate, that is screwing us over ;)

With these data bundle prices and absurd OOB prices, Cell C has missed a huge opportunity and damaged much of the goodwill they had garnered. They now look to be part and parcel of the old cartel, albeit with a few carrots dangling out of their hot air balloon.

This. but my sadness for CellC at failing, has turned into anger for them, as they gave the impression they were going to change 3G Prices. just like Neotel and screamer and digichilly, and and and

What a let down CellC turned out to be. I thought they would want to steal as many internet users as possible from Vodacom, MTN, and even ADSL Users, so they can build a World class network and start to dominate.
Seriously, if the special is over, what's going to entice me to use THEIR network over others?

- ADSL has the CHEAPEST bandwidth, and uncapped
- Vodacom gives you 2.3 Gigs + specials, for less money?
- MTN has no R2.00 OOB rates, it's just R0,19c ? they also have uncapped, where you can get 1GB for 50 bucks AT THE LEAST
- 8ta has good promotions for their Voice Calls

seriously, CellC screwed up big time IMO, they could have stolen A LOT of users......as their prices are now, WHY would anyone leave their ISPs?

U guys,u knw vodacom c.e.o said that yeah its a promo price,IT WAS KNOWN all this time, like vodacom gave free internet for couple months, like dstv when all the channels are open, wen cellc had mms,it was all free,Marketing 101 get people and Cell C had s.a going.apart frm speed sure, going folk out couplm grands for 1year connection! Wel I myself wil get that 999 deal, its gng save me internet cost for 1yr great, and on to the next great deal after

CellC 12months contract is not a promo, it looks like a normal offer. 2Gig R149pm R0.07 per megabyte, what is wrong with it?. When my promo ends I would take it, I am sure nobody is going to get even close.
