Is gaming ram worth it?

If improving by gaming performance you mean - getting more FPS (FPS is defined by the processing speed of CPU and GPU not memory latency), then I'll be the 1st to tell you that it won't improve that - it will improve other things, like a smoother feel in some things, better load times in some cases etc.

It's all marketing by calling it "Gaming RAM", it doesnt help gaming as much as it actually helps the rest of the system..... So if you're thinking about "upgrading" your ram for gaming and better FPS, then stop right now and consider saving for a better CPU or GPU instead...

In my case over-clocking can only be done by increasing the FSB and this raises the memory speed and only gaming ram allows one to go far beyond stock FSB and maintain stability, this is how I get more FPS, so basically gaming ram is just there to allow a higher FSB while maintaining stability and only worth getting if over-clocking.

What most people said here - just get decent brand name value ram, UNLESS you are a serious overclocker and require the stability and speed you will get if you substantially increase voltages and speeds of the Ram. If you are a moderate overclocker, you can just use a ram divider which will have a small hit to performance but nothing to really worry about.

You just don't want to get the cheapest memory you can find. I've been down that road and more often than not had page faults and system instability and eventually narrowed it down to the ram.

I second that ! Rather drive a Merc at 160kph than a Ford Fiesta at 160kph. U know who has the most chance of crashing (just a comparison, nothing against anyone that drives a Fiesta)
