Is gaming ram worth it?

You assume your reasoning is the only right answer here.. Thats arrogant, ie somebody having excessive pride in themselves. As to the full of yourself part.. Jumping around calling people idiotic because they dont believe in your idea of a mindset explains itself..PLUS.. I'm not the only one here who has commented on your attitude in this thread

Pe-Killer asked a question of all forumites.. Not just you, get over yourself already.

I'll stand by what I said. If you get it at a decent price.. Then yes go for it. Decent price also differs from person to person, and how people "waste" their money is up to them. Even if it is for a small 1% increase over your "value" RAM

I couldn't care less if people who spread misinformation think I reply harshly to them.
Your situation and information you're providing is totally subjective to your "uber" system.

I'm glad you stand by that, since it's the only decent thing you've said!
 
Leelo is right man.. who did pee in your test tube, or was it your coffee this morning. I never said I had an "Uber" system Go back and read a bit. I said Gaming RAM was cheaper for me in my budget of what I wanted to spend, than going a CPU up.

Pe-Killer might be in the same situation, so then in his case the gaming ram WILL give him a slight increase, You can not deny that... the fact of it being worth it or not.. Is up to him to decide.

if that low-latency RAM is a significant increase in expense compared to the higher latency alternative, Paul, then under normal circumstances I’d suggest that the extra expense isn’t warranted. If you can obtain it for only a few dollars more, then why not go for it?

Buy CAS-2 if [1] you want to wring the last bit of performance out of your system, or
[2] you're thinking of overclocking, either now or in the future, or [3] it costs the
same as CAS-3, which it sometimes does...
Otherwise, CAS-3 memory should meet your requirements

I've done my own tests on my own PC... for the average user the difference won't be worth it but gaming is where the difference is most noticeable and worth it. ;)

ok, i just need some examples here. as in legit benchmarks (from toms, anandtech, or hardocp etc etc) that show that most noticeable difference :) i need this for my own peace of mind and for the rest of the forumites here.

please note, if gaming ram increases game performance, i need to know about this in order to make informed decisions about upgrading my rig in the near future :)

anybody care to prove this?

If improving by gaming performance you mean - getting more FPS (FPS is defined by the processing speed of CPU and GPU not memory latency), then I'll be the 1st to tell you that it won't improve that - it will improve other things, like a smoother feel in some things, better load times in some cases etc.

It's all marketing by calling it "Gaming RAM", it doesnt help gaming as much as it actually helps the rest of the system..... So if you're thinking about "upgrading" your ram for gaming and better FPS, then stop right now and consider saving for a better CPU or GPU instead...

It will help some for FPS.. but not drastic. Its a combination of the CPU and the RAM and everything as a whole
