Is gaming ram worth it?

 Please, don't make stupid comments trying to defend cheap RAM.

Care to flesh out your rather vague comment?

NORMAL HYNIX RAM WILL PERFORM VIRTUALLY THE SAME AS ANYTHING ELSE!

Who's defending cheap RAM!? Hynix is perfectly good RAM!

 Please, don't be stupid.

Know what you're talking about before trying to diss someone.

I'm, with MrE....
If the difference in RAM performance was so great, it would become as big a decision as choosing a CPU. Which it isn't.

Yes, of course, there is some performance gain to be had with gaming ram but how much performance depends on your indivual setup & needs.

Stop trying to scratch each other's eyes out like little girls.

Hey! I reserve the right to have a heated debate with anyone who spreads incorrect information! Don't suck the passion out of life! :)

If I'm wrong, which I know I'm not in this case, then prove me wrong and I'll concede like a gentleman. ..It's nothing personal.

..But as long as people write cr4p and put their little roll-y eyes at the end or beginning of their rubbish utterences then I'll treat them with the contempt they deserve.

Haha, well it's a debatable issue and sometimes it best to let sleeping dogs lie

lol that's a contradiction in terms.

lol of course it is sparkles, I'm not writing a scientific journal am I! Weak dude, seriously weak.

Sure, that extra 2FPS in COD4 is worth the extra R2k :p

You wouldn't even get an extra 2fps fyi.

Haha, well it's a debatable issue and sometimes it best to let sleeping dogs lie

Well maybe for you, but I'm not afraid to stick my neck out if people are spreading misinformation on a forum where people are looking for the truth, ..and hence possibly resulting in spending more money on something that is worthless for their particular situation.

I suppose so, carry on then :p

Blah.. If the cost of the gaming RAM is not vastly different to the "normal" RAM, then get it.

But otherwise you should rather spend the money else were for "bigger" gains in speed.

Yeah mushkins are really cheap at prophecy now, I would by that if I chose to overclock my PC... oh wait I did ;)

So the final verdict is that if you not planning on OC'ing its not worth it ?

I still say it depends on how much you have to speed, regardless of overclocking.

When I built my current rig, the next CPU up from mine had a 3k difference, so it made more sense to rather spend 1k extra on my RAM than the CPU.

At least thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Dude, that is the most idiotic reasoning I have heard in a while!

But go ahead, burn your cash, but keep it to yourself, there are people looking for good info here and you're not helping.

WOW... aint I all arrogant and full of myself.

I'm not the only one world wide who says that if you can get it at a decent price, then grab it. The lower latency is better. no doubt. Even the article YOU posted from Tom said the same.
Our conclusion is very simple: you get the best bang for the buck if you stick to the mainstream of the memory market, which currently is still DDR2 DDR2 SDRAM -800 or 1066, preferably at low latencies.

Yes it might be a small difference, but it is.. Plain and simple. If you can get the RAM for a good price then why not.

Ok WHAT in my reply was REMOTELY arrogant or being "full of myself"!? Maybe you can point that out for me? Seems you don't know what either means..

"Preferably", meaning it's really no train smash! ie NOT mandatory.

Yes a small difference, so small that it really makes no significant real world difference!

Sure if you can get expensive ram at a good price, then go for it if money is no object to you, ..but don't pretend like it's gonna make your pc perform more than 1-3% better than a system with "value" ram.

Sure, each to their own, but I assure you most people would rather spend money on something that will provide a tangible difference.

buy what you like, mrE puts a bit harshly and goes anal over this so let me say it nicely :p

cheap ram will perform slower than the more expensive lower latency(even if it is 3% its still slower), if your on a budget forget the expensive stuff

if you have a bit of extra cash after getting your pricing together spend it on good quality low latency ram

WOW, who pee'd in your test tube, you've got a real chip on that there shoulder - for the entire world mate!

but don't pretend like it's gonna make your pc perform more than 1-3% better than a system with "value" ram.

Dude, I've actually physically done REAL world test, encoded video, compressed rar files, worked with Premiere and 3dsmax - there is MORE than 1-3% performance increase with the Premium RAM vs the Generic RAM.
As I've stated before, it could be that I have a Q9450 and it really makes better use of the Memory Bandwidth available, but I can emphatically state that i have personally seen an improvement.

Did you do some test? What were the results?

But, theres no point in arguing with you, you've made up your mind already so - enjoy it.....

So you say that, even if someone is not overclocking, they should spend how ever much money they have available on fancily branded memory that will provide no real world advantages over "value" ram!?

Very logical, nice.
