IS is dodgy! Face it!

Compare any SAIX account to and IS account, anytime of the day and i'll bet 90% of the time SAIX account's pings will be lower and through put more consitant.

If you open task manager's networking tab, on a saix connection when you download something most of the time the line in the graph is flat. On IS it goes up and down like a pair of rabbits pomping!

I use my SAIX account from browsing, and my IS for local downloads. Without the IS account, my business use alone would require 3-4 SAIX 3GB accounts.

I have an IS account as well as a Telkom account. I also have this nice package called Ping Plotter, that basicly run a traceroute and displays the results graphicly.

In my experience the IS account are about 200ms slower (ping times) than the Telkom one to Interational sites (business as well as after hours). This is due to the Satalite links they use. However I use both these acounts extensively for online (international) gaming and I have found that in general the IS account is better, purely because it is unshaped. (and they can offer these unshaped accounts only because they are using Satalite, Telkom will not allow it on their fiber network).

For browsing and email, the Telkom is better, because Telkom gives priority to this kind of traffic (by shaping the traffic).

The IS account has one big problem, they use satelite and that is prone to weather and other electro magnetic disturbance. So when we having bad weather, the connetion tend to go up and down a lot.

To get back to the OP's point. Yes IS is cheaper and maybe less dependable for browsing and email traffic, however they use a completely different model to Telkom/Saix, and for that reason the two cannot realy be comapared.

If you are going to use the connection only for web browsing, during office hours (and going to be so inpatient about it) then perhaps Telkom/Saix is going to be a better option. If you want to do anything else, then IS will be better.

An sugestion. Can you change around your home and work connections, perhaps that will actualy be better...

Exactly! This is the whole point! Different isps best for different things, Daysleeper. Surely you understand that?
