is it legal?

day1 update: he's lying about his work
Do you suspect him of any wrongdoing?
If not you should work on your trust issues or your relationship is over before it started.

How does this "bugging" of the car work? Is it bugged for sound or are you just tracking his movements?

"Cheaters investigators find that ice_cubes' boyfriend is hot for someone else."
Followed by a huge fight in a parking lot with two women screaming things like "AHM A GONNA BEAD DJOO UP, HO" "AHM A GONNA BEAD DJOO UP, HO" "AHM A GONNA BEAD DJOO UP, HO" (why do they always repeat the same sentence over and over?)

So ice_cubes, I see you in PTA, looking for a boyfriend with his own cars and a REAL job? :D

In a surprise twist, Cheaters investigators find that supersunbird was ice_cubes' boyfriend all along. He was cheating on her with herself!

The solution to this problem isn't to be a paranoid psycho hose beast. It is either finding a boyfriend you can trust or communicating with him.

Is she still paranoid if she's right and he is cheating? All these people claiming it's her fault if the relationship is going south are missing the point that some guys do cheat. And if he is, why shouldn't she get proof?

A "bug" in my understanding is normally a listening device, so that is just why I was wondering. Tracking the vehicle, as you explained, should be fairly straight forward.
