is it possible to change Exchanges?

Hi

Basically we are connected to Kloof (NKLO) exchange.

Is it possible to change our exchange to Forest Hills (NFTH) exchange which is closer.

The reason why I am asking about this is our 4mb became unusable lately and so we have dropped down to a stable slow 1mb and its very slow.

Hi Randomwalsh,
I don't have a definite answer for you. You would need to speak with your fixed line provider on that. The guys at Telkom are generally very helpful in answering queries like this.
Also in reporting the fault they may find what the problem is faster than you get approval for routing to another exchange even if it is possible.

They will not (cannot) swop your exchange unless you are willing to pay for it. It will entail additional cable work to re-route your line to an entirely different cable grid.

Most exchanges feed a geograpical area so in most cases you cannot change an exchange from Kloof to forrest hills those are in the suburbs.
The only places where you would be able to change exchange is where the exchanges are in the same building ,like the centre of a large city where there are multiple exchanges in one building.(it all comes down to cable networks they do not overlap as a rule )

Why is the same exchange previously (apparently) usable and now suddenly unusable?

Surely tectonic plate shifting doesn't happen that fast...

Regardless, doesn't change my original point about the mountain of anecdotal evidence re. "structural" problems severely impacting on real world speeds obtained vs the 4Mb/10Mb user subscription and roll out stats Telkom so proudly touts. MyBB should dig into this.
