Is it possible to have two "flu's" at the same time?

Aha yes, so I checked to be safe. I was on Augmentin for 5 days, now I'm on Klarithran for 7 days. I was actually kicked out of work today, I really tried to work, I was like man I can type on a keyboard all day and take phone calls. *phone rings* answers Hi-*coughs for 10 seconds* sorry I'm just recove *coughs another 10 seconds*

fml lol
so my dr said that it could be covid, but the treatment would remain the same, so we didn't test for that. but I doubt its covid, because i suspect I got this from my kid, and we did covid test her and it came back negative.

Also I gave myself tachycardia. I didn't realize that fever = high heart rate, so I took a monster this morning to be like ayo i can work, and then I took a bunch of meds, half of which also increase heart rate. So I was sitting at 116-120 bpm according to my watch and I could feel it too, my heart was like thudding in my ears. That's when I was like ok time to go to dr and someone drove me. After my heartrate went down it was a lot better and I felt a lot better as a whole. So maybe I overdid it cause in the last 1.5?2.5? (idk timeline blurry) weeks i've used flomist, iliadin, duro-tuss linctus, ashtavent, pulmicort, prednisone, allergex, corenza c, acc200, efferflu, augmentin and now klarithran, andolex c (but just the losenges) , acelet, hidrist and ibumol. Maybe one or two other things too, but i know that probably reads like a 'lets see how many meds this guy can list' but its true, i guess going to 3 drs and 3 pharmacists gets you a buncha different shayte.

and I must be rly sick cause i see ppl drinking Prime.

but yeah i am starting to feel better now holy hell, i would have reached for any meds. the 100% worst was the late night plegm/tight chest/coughing fits, at some point you're like so tired but you can't sleep and everything hurts lung pain ****ing sucks man im never touching a cigarette in my life.
There can be many reasons for this:

1) Its possible you picked up a drug resistant bug. So the antibiotics will "suppress it" but as soon as you stop it will be back. Go back to your Dr for a proper diagnosis and tell your Dr to rotate the class of antibiotic. They will understand. I suspect you were prescribed either augmentin or zithromax (I recommend avoiding these for a couple of years). These antibiotics were extensively used during covid and hence the resistance profile for them is quite high. Rather use tavanic if you qualify for it.

2) Its not flu coupled with secondary infection - but rather something worse i.e covid, TB

3) Your upper respiratory tract is still inflammed from the infection and is clearing out debris. This can happen with bronchitis etc and can take up to 180 days to clear as its severity decreases

either way you have to go back to your Dr.
Are you by any chance a pharmacist, idk maybe just well educated on medicine? Like 100% of you said here was accurate, almost eerily so and appliciable to my situation basically. Thanks for that.
Given the damage that Covid does to the lymphocytes basically giving you a form of AIDS,coupled with reduced mask usage leading to a surge of RSV cases, flu's kind of the least noticeable part in the threeway cluster****

My kid recently had the RSV and Flu combo and that was pretty ****
eina, glad kiddo is ok, that sounds like an ICU stay of note

Many products off the shelf contain NAC.
You should get some to assist those lungs.
Your body turns NAC into Glutathione, which assists the alveoli in the clearing of the lungs.

If your alveoli doesn't do a stellar job with that, you'll soon be chatting with @Avbob se stoep ...
yesss this is accurate af
im finally coughing up green stuff, before it was just pain lol

My son got sick the previous Friday. By last Tuesday he was still not better, so took him to doctor. Got some pills and seemed to be better by this weekend. Then yesterday he started all over getting worse again, mostly chest and coughing. Took him to Dr again today and got fresh set of pills and antibiotics.
Heard from two other people that had similar experience the last few weeks.
Myself also got ill from son since Wednesday, but are feeling better currently, hopefully not going downwards like him in a few days again.

RSV is pretty much a 2-4week cough-fest

I also recently had Bronchitis (if diagnosed correctly and perhaps the same as OP)

It started out as a throat infection, doctor told me due to my smoking it moved onto my lungs.

Augmentin 1000mg twice per day, 5 day course.

Did not get better.

Then Zithrogen 500mg once a day, 3 day course.

It eventually cleared up.

I too had cold-like symptoms after the bronchitis and throat cleared up.

Yeah the whole sick -> get antibiotic chain is more to prevent secondary infections. Does nothing for the viruses
South Africans are taught wrong from early on

I Think my case was bacterial, the antibiotics worked

This illusion sustains the practice. You're on day 4 of a self-limiting illness that will run for say 10-11 days no matter what you do, symptoms are at their worst, you go in, get a course of pills that happens to run 7 days, and lo and behold just as you finish that course you're feeling better.

If you did get a positive cell culture done I will stand corrected but 95% of the time it's not the pills.

I get that patients might not have got the message, but GPs? Are they aware they're not treating the illness they've actually diagnosed? That it's prophylaxis? Are they conscious of the small but irreversible risk of more drug resistance? In a country plagued with XDR TB I find it pretty amazing.

This is pretty irresponsible advice from someone who presumably has some education.

Without/before any solid indication of bacterial infection you're suggesting that because of the risk of drug resistance, that the patient randomly demand another antibiotic at risk of creating more drug resistance?

Reminds me of 3 ways to treat a cold:
1) Stay in bed for 3 days till it's over
2) Take meds for 3 days till it's over
3) Do nothing for 3 days till it's over

South African's entitlement is something to behold when you experience medicine in other countries. I've never been anywhere quite as aggressively prescribing antibiotics - and people feel cheated if they don't get any

This given our private for-profit system must be a big part of it. GPs can't charge patients R 500 to tell them to go home and rest.

But with the public health issues at stake you'd think there would be a regulatory solution... or at least some sort of PR.

Not really. I'm experienced enough to give advice from the OPs story.

You are partially correct about resistance and usage of antibiotics however resistance to antibiotics doesn't really work the way you think it does.

Unfortunately as another poster has pointed out in the private sector patients/clients feel robbed when they pay so much and the Dr tells them to simply rest.

Most medical practioners can tell the difference between a viral infection and a bacterial infection without a lab and most of the time a viral infection will cause a secondary infection anyways.

The next thing you must consider most people don't usually run to their GPs at a sniffle. By the time they come to us they've already tried their home remedies at home and it's not working hence the antibiotics and/or steroids for UTRI.

Most of the time the infection is self limiting so there is no point doing a MCS for the patient. So most medical professionals are aware about resistance and that is why they stick to the same few antibiotics.

The mistake the OP made was going to different doctors of the same level resulting duplication of treatment. He did not allow the drs to step up their treatment.

Hey guys, not really sure what's going on with me, I seem to have gotten some form of back to back sickness, or perhaps once long sickness?

I went to the dr two weeks ago and he diagnosed me with Pharyngitis, and he asked me if I was coughing etc. But it was pretty mild then, like it was just starting out. Then 2-3 days later it was a lot worse and I had a lot of plegm and lying down was horrible, woke up all the time just coughing and feeling like I can't breathe etc. Anyways he put me on anti biotics which I finished, and I seemed to get better, but around day 5 of the anti biotics I started feeling more 'traditional' flu like symtoms, achy body, running nose (but also congested lol) and that seemed to just persist to where I'm now sick since Wednesday two weeks ago.

It's more frustrating than anything all I've been doing is sleeping and taking Corenza C. I thought anti biotics would help me, but now I feel like my body just got attacked by something else.

Super weird, usually I can shake these things in a few days, but guess not this time.
I have the answer for you.
Swine flu.

Late last year i had bronchitis and swineflu together.
Man, i was dead. worse than delta covid, but luckily for only a week.

just a slight update on this.
its been 4 weeks now I think, maybe more.
I am finally starting to feel 'almost ok' i still cough and have a lot of pleghm, and my right lung hurts when I inhale deeply, but this is honestly the best I've feel in so long. I went to gym and i was weak asf but at least i was able to get some blood flowing and i took it easy.

one weird side effect is that my lower back hurts, i think its my kidneys, but its pretty mild, just not a pain im used to.

Don't **** around with viral illness by putting yourself under any cardio strain. Myocarditis is a thing

Yes like I said Swineflu is going around. There was a report the other day of someone dying of it due to organ failure.
