Is it time for a four-day work week?

I'd work 12 hours a day Monday to Saturday if we could get this economy going again.
 
Are they looking to cut down the number of working hours per week or prolonging a work day (i.e. adding additional hours to the day)? If it's the latter, are you not just condensing all the stress into 4 days?
If it's the former, where will companies get those hours back though and what about salaries, will that decrease in accordance with a 4-day work week? Will they reduce annual leave? From what I've heard, Europeans have a lot more annual leave than what we do (or at least what the BCoEA recommends).

According to South Africa law, workers may not work more than an average of 45 hours a week, and accrue an average of 5 hours’ overtime a week.

I lol'd so hard. Our billable hours per week averages at 42, whereas the actuals (non-billable) are more like 55-60.
 
I wonder if we could eventually get to businesses running 24 hours a day through people working "shifts". Will also solve traffic issues, people are allocated shifts so you get some guys working Monday to Thursday 8 to 5, some Thursday to Monday 6 to 3 etc... At their own choosing of course, as 8 to 5 still feels so archaic and needs to change.
 
Retail needs this, i have a buddy who works 6 days a week and sees very little of his own kids as it's late hours too :-(
 
Here is a job creation opportunity for Zuma.
Make it 6 day work week, with 2 shifts, 3 days on, 3 days off.

Problem with that is you wont have enough money to keep you busy for the other four days :(
