A mate of mine knows a guy who's selling iPads, the 16 gig is R5300 and the 16 gig 3G is R6200, is this worth it? or will it be cheaper from a local store.

I got an email today that he'll be selling the iPhone 4 for R8500 for the 16gig, think it'll be worth it ?

edit: Just got an email with his prices, the 3G is R200 more than I thought

Yeah iPads would def be worth it. I paid R6500 for my 16GB... dnt regret it at all.. would pay R10k for it if i had to. But as far as iPhone 4 goes....R8500 is abit steep, vodacom will sell them prob also for bout R8000-9000 but why would we buy from a grey importer when we can buy localy and have warrenty?
 
AFAIK Apple has an international warranty? and who knows when Vodacom might bring them, beside that I'd also rather take the local unless I could get him down to R7000 or so.

I would also like to buy one - if it's legit. Or semi-legit at least... :p

Definitely the 3G one.
 
I'm going to find out about the international warranty, if it's true I'm going to be buying one tomorrow.

My mate bought one, and he's got the 3G working with a DIY sim.

The only thing that worries me is warranty.

It's best to wait till the second generation - hopefully they'll put in a higher res screen and maybe a USB port or two. The new iPhone has a higher res screen than the iPad. I'd rather get that as that screen res makes me want to get it, I don't know if Apple makes better screens than Sharp (doubt that their Taiwanese maker can stand up to Japanese Sharp) but at that res - I may get an iPhone when the 4 comes out.

The iPhone 4 has an amazing screen! IPS tech and that insanely high resolution, I think they've totally caught up to Sharp and other japanese phones, at least for now.

Sharp's been using ASV which is a variant of VA - also full 8 bit display. The newest one is amazing and you can turn on the polarised privacy mode so that no-one else can see your screen but you. The only thing which comes close is the display screen on my Sony PMW-EX1. Thanks for the pic, I'll check it later. The iPhone 4 may be something I'll buy because of that high res display :).

Sharp uses them in their Japanese mobiles and Sharp AQOUS TV sets:
