Yesterday I logged into a certain forum and found a thread where they were talking about programming languages... Some of the people said that Java is a language for sissies, now I would like to hear from YOU mybroadband people... What's your take? Do you think Java is a language for sissies ? which Language is your favourite? And why do you favour it?

Looking forward to many responses from you

What? Balsphemy. Java is the ish. Kepp in mind that those people are prob used to their own languages that they grew up with so maybe its a defense mechanism blah blah blah...

At work, I code in C.
To play around, I code in C#, SQL and recently messing around with ASP.net

But, I grew up on Java.

Java is for masochists or people stuck in the "enterprise".

I use Python.

The only language worth insulting is Visual Basic. Everything else has its place.

There is a place for applications written in Java and applications written in C. They each have their place. To say one is for sissies is missing the point - they are both tools. A hammer is more hardcore than a toothbrush, but I dont see any brushing their teeth with hammers.

I don't like Java per say but i do like its subsets like Scala.

@Ancalagon - Agreed

I work with Java all day at work, and I work at a startup :)

It's a good language and suits our needs.

I've worked with other languages before such as C, C++, Python, etc..

I don't consider it a bad language, you can do some amazing things with Java, and in many cases it's performance is on par with the likes of C++.

I wouldn't mind working in C again, much more fun, and dangerous, when you're in control of everything.

I like Python. Python is awesome. And we built an enterprise solution with Python (well, it grew) and lemme tell you - BIG MISTAKE. Loosely typed FTL in enterprise :(

Anybody saying Java is a language for sissies is either some "rockstar" holier-than-though C or C++ dev or some kid who thinks .NET is AWESOME (it is...it really is) and that there is no use for any other language out there.

You use the bloody language that is suited for the damn job.

Really and truly any computer programmer calling another computer programmer a sissy because of their choice of programming language needs to be placed in an MMA cage fight and then we'll see who the real sissy is.

LOL...CamiKaze don't you think maybe you're also defending Java because you grew up using it ? .... I Love Java... It's my first language.. and I'm still learning it... I find that Java has a huge library(there's nothing sissy about such a huge library)

You're not the first person to say that... But what's wrong with VB? I was so determined to learn VB... until I found that many programmers don't really like it

I Agree with you

I have never used a Java application that comes close to any C++ performance and this is in house developed by huge enterprises or whats available online. That is a myth until someone can prove it .....

Mainly the syntax, its horrible.

the VB projects that I've worked on just somehow lend themselves to bad coding. I dont know what it is.

I'm sure VB.Net is a lot better, but I find C style code (C, C++, Java, C#) much more readable than any VB code.

My very first programming language was VB6. Then naturally went to VB.net.
C# and Java came later and I haven't touched VB.net in years.

@ Hamster.... If thats the case.... PHP will be my next language... I wouldn't want to be called a sissy
