Last year February I bought my first car vw citi sport 1.4 worth R60000. I just turned 25 last month and my drivers license I got it in May 2010...finding affordable insurance was not easy, I looked around and i felt insurance was too expensive, i got quotes ranging from R1500 to 2500 and I got more or less the same results from Hippo....Then I was advised to try Miway, which I did, using their call me back service. They were very quick to call me back.. They gave me a quote of R860 with R2500 excess! I took it... so later last year, 4 of my friends bought cars, they were also looking for affordable insurance, they took Miway... So after few weeks they decided to put tracker devices on their cars and my self has fitted a new sound system, so we had to amend..to our surprise when we got the documents confirming the changes, we noticed that all our license date of issue was 2008 and we all got our licenses after 2008..so 5 guys with wrong date of issuing....changing this will increase our premium and not changing it might void any claims made, i think..so what can we do? anyone that has experience this? I don't believe it is a mistake....

i guess it is safer to call them and rectify the issue
if they want to charge you more, tell them to shove it- your contract is the voice-recording between you and the sales person - if he/she captured the wrond details, their team-leader will have to sort the person out...

anycase- if they charge you higher, shop around, and bring them the better prices - they will change their tune very quickly..

Thanks man I will do that first thing in the morning, maybe i might even get a better offer!

Phone them and resolve it, also shop around for insurance, don't always look at the name brands, especially Hippo which actually just checks the same brands under one big group. Try Sanlam, Renasa and Glenrand MIB, also being 25 doesn't really effect insurance, not sure where that came about but I've not seen any discounts for 25 and over.

There is often an additional excess for drivers under 25 or who have had a license for a short time.

The car you chose unfortunately comes with higher premiums generally, however time you get yourself a broker ;)

Agreed. Most policies I've had have had some weighting with regards to age and time of drivers license.

To the OP, shop around for better quote, bring to MiWay's attention and they will lower your premium in line with a quote you got from another insurance company. MiWay increased my premium from R920 to R1020 for my Ford Figo, had my license for 5 years and I'm over 25 years. They are definitely ripping me off, so I'll start comparing quotes next week.

2 very valid points. The Citi Golf does attract a higher premium. If you aren't an insurance expert yourself, then a GOOD broker is a must.

Just tried to amend my policy by changing the license age date issued (nice thing about Miway you can do everything online). that alone increased my premium to R1008 from R914, now Friday I am moving in from a complex with remote controlled access to my new house, it has no garage, gate or nor walled ( security risk and I will need to tell them about the move)....looks i will be broker hunting tomorrow.. any one know anything about Uturn insurance company?

Depends on how you drive. They put a device in your car that measures your average speed, acceleration, sudden braking and sharp turning amongst other things and calculate your premium from that.

Good for granny not so good for a student.
