I don't know where to place this message....

What is the easiest way to test if a cellphone is network locked or not without spending money to buy a prepaid card from the other networks?

I have a Vodafone branded phone - is it locked or not?

Are the 3G cards locked or not?

I see lots of fun coming up with the VM data rates!

I dug out my GFs cell C phone and put my Vodacom card in - works fine.

Easy, cheap way to find out: Go to PNP and buy a SIM or two (MTN/Voda) R2 each. Put them in and see what happens :-)

Interesting though :) We'll port your number to a different network, but we won't unlock your phone so you can use it... Heh, I can see trouble ahead. :)

You can check if a Sony Ericsson phone is network locked by going into the service menu. push the following button combination > * < < * < * and then when the service menu pops up go to "service info" sub menu and then the "sim lock" sub menu. The sim lock menu will show all the locks on the phone including the network lock status.

if a phone is locked can we go to the service provider and unlock it? esp if the phone is old and was bought 2nd/3rd hand
