Is NeoTel latency good enough for FPS?

I guess no ones had a chance to try yet, but apparently it's 150ms, I can't remember what mine is to SAIX servers on my 384kbps adsl (haven't played in long time), but somehow I think it's about the same, could be wrong though.

I'm mainly interested in BF2, but I would have thought other FPS have similer needs.

Ideas?

There is no single value for latency. The 150ms is based on random tests done by MyADSL, you should get a lower average to most gaming servers imo.

iBurst gets lower than 100ms most of the time.

well on 64k wireless I got between 90 - 150 ping CSS/DODS/TF2
I am not too clused up on BF2's net code, but still you geting about +100kb/s speed!that should be more than enough! :D

As Ekhaatvensters say's iburst works well I know of people playing CoD4 on it :) so BF2 should not be a problem.

I connect to a wireless high site 18km away using Wifi and the ping to that HS is about 2ms.

Now I know Wifi is not what Neotel use but the point is a long range link like that has a very low ping so it all depends on backhaul and network capacity.

One can only hope...

I suspect they just haven't sorted out their routing properly.

To convince gamers, it would have to be <100ms to a local server. SAIX 2 local server was 70ms last time I checked.

Wireless is not necessarily a problem i.t.o. ping itself, but also if the service is sporadic. Missing 500ms in the middle of a Unreal tournament deathmatch is just not cool.

rubbish 70 is for certain ppl

most ppl get 20-40 ping to sgs servers

neotel wont be cable internet such as adsl but will be wireless

so in effect you'll have bad pings

I too would say 100 or less would be best unless it's a MMO or Trackmania :)

havoc a friend of mine durbs was getting 60-70 pings

he changed from saix to IS and upgraded to 4 meg line, he now gets 22

Threepwood, it's still early days and Neotel could be suffering from some peering issues. But in general, there shouldn't be much more latency using wireless than using dsl. Give or take a few ms to the high site.

Thanks, I'll see if I can scored some prepaid IS somewhere to test. 4meg is not an option unfortunately.:o

Cool. I guess though we'll just have to wait until some people get NeoTel and post some results...only question is, who's going to take the plunge?:D

There will be more than enough of them in a months time I'm sure.

But apparently you can't make a phonecall while on the internet and visa versa with the current NeoTel device. Back to dialup days when someone picks up the phone. :)

I think we seriously just have to wait for NeoTels WiMax or fibre offerings. This service won't be as good as ADSL and generally won't satisfy gamers.
